EXACTLY!

Don’t go to college. Learn an actual skill. Lean to work on engines. Learn to fix boats. Learn to do plumbing. Learn electrical repair. Learn to invest in real estate.

You’ll get rich cuz the idiots with all the “degrees” won’t know how to do anything.

Most people in the trades that don’t do well are because they make bad choices, 3 divorces, booze, strippers, big trucks... They blow it and you can do that also as an attorney, MD...

But if you look at what a plumber, HVAC, welder, electrician make, and compare that with someone with a sociology degree, a teacher or social worker, you quickly realize they make more, often way more.

There is nothing wrong with being a mechanic.

I am not sure why and how this notion started that somehow it is an inferior choice to go into the trades. IMHO the high schools started pushing this idea and it was the colleges and universities that were fueling this by targeting the counselors.

Much of the college drop out rate is less a statement about the school and more about society. Kids are pushed into something which is not in their true nature. So they rack up $20-30k of debt, leave college after a year and then eventually end up in a trade if they are lucky. Imagine if schools had done their (((JOB))) and indentified what kid is more vocationally bound, counseled them right, and either had them learn the trade already in high school, or in a trade school right after graduation?

Do you think a kid 20 years old that isn’t really college bound, and 2 years after high school that is making $26-28 an hour as an electrician will complain? Or he can bomb out of college at that point with $20 - 30k of debt, no job, no skills, and try to figure out where to go from there.

Our schools do these kids a huge disservice.
