Russia cuts gas to Poland as U.S., allies to send Ukraine more heavy weapons

Ukraine accused Russia of blackmailing Europe over energy in an attempt to break its allies, as fighting heads into a third month without Russia capturing a major city

WARSAW/SOFIA/KYIV — Russia halted gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract on Wednesday, data from the European Union network of gas transmission operators showed, in a deepening of the rift between the West and Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

Bulgaria, like Poland a NATO and EU member, said earlier that Russia would also halt supplies of gas to it.

Ukraine accused Russia of blackmailing Europe over energy in an attempt to break its allies, as fighting heads into a third month without Russia capturing a major city.

Poland’s gas supply contract with energy giant Gazprom is for 10.2 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year, and covers about 50% of national consumption.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on “unfriendly” countries to pay for gas imports in roubles, a demand only a few buyers have implemented.

“The ultimate goal of Russia’s leadership is not just to seize the territory of Ukraine, but to dismember the entire center and east of Europe and deal a global blow to democracy,” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said late on Tuesday.

In spite of what most Americans want.
Nearly three-fourths of Americans support US helping supply weapons to Ukraine: poll

They launder money for the corrupt oligarchs in the west and their progeny.

The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country.

I think you're right. When did a bloody dictator like Poontang ever do anything on principle?

Most Americans want a shooting war with Russia? I don’t think so.

My support has always been with the people in this and none of the politicians/leaders. Only President Trump has recently made a statement about finding and end to the destruction.

I hope Europe suffers greatly in the pocket and realizes their decades long free ride is over and with it a way of life largely supported by the American taxpayers debt, a debt that will destroy our way of life.

So Big Dummy Austin, Woke slob Miley and clowns like Blinken carry on

One of Trump’s expressions that made me think he would be different was when he said stuff like “Bomb the shiite out of them and take their oil to pay for it.”

If we send in American boots on the ground, we damned well better be negotiating American Land as the thing to fight for. Big, sweeping American EmBASEees along the border between Russia and Ukraine. A Lend Lease project. Americans fighting for American land. For generations we could use that land to build airports and fight terrorism in that region. I would call it the BBudapest AAgreement LLend LLease program because it would take BALLs.

from my home page

I have been advocating for several years a policy I call ‘embaseees’. Embassy + AirBase —> EmBASEeees. We go into a terrorist country, clear out their taliban equivalent, then withdraw to very large Embassies, perhaps 3 of them. Have them big enough to encompass a military airbase where we can use it for decades on end to conduct anti-terrorism operations. As long as the ‘host’ country aint killing Americans then we let them have self-sovereignty. Kind of like how we operated in the Phillipines for decades. We could even have an intermediate zone that we patrol but it would be autonomous. Let them have their taste of freedom. A referendum every 10 years to see how large the boundaries of the intermediate autonomous zone should be.

Looks a lot like Hitler’s justification for invading Sudetenland. Appeasement of that local bully ended up costing 50-60 million lives. Learn the lesson of how appeasement doesn’t work. If that issue was such a big deal then Russia never would have signed the Budapest Accession to the NNPT.

Interesting history. They gained independence in 1990 and have been a playground for our pols ever since, including a couple of ‘colour revolutions’.

The same thing was said about Germany in Sudetenland. Such appeasement cost 50-60 million deaths.

another language map based on 2001 data that is more localized (and probably more informative politically and militarily):

The same old self-affirming circular reasoning a priori assertion. Every time.

“We can’t get involved with overseas conflicts because we shouldn’t be involved in overseas conflicts.”

No attacks on NATO countries have occurred.
***Ukraine had a MAP Membership Action Plan in place for joining NATO. The reason Ras Putin decided to invade now was because he knew Biden is weak-kneed just like obambam was.

Chamberlain returned to Britain after Munich to streets lined with cheering Brits.

It was Hitler who messed up by grabbing all of Czechoslovakia.

Ukraine is none of our business!
***We made it our bizness during peacetime when we signed the Budapest Accession to the UN Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty & dismantled their nukes in exchange for border & sovereignty assurances.
