Joined Truth Social this morning and it was immediate. No wait list.
I urge Facebook and Twitter users to move over.
Don’t forget the past few years you are being monitored and key words you use on Facebook and Twitter alert they’re “full time sensors to remove your posts or your membership.
This is what we’ve waited for so long.
Why would I join a platform that is hosted on a system (Rumble), that the regime can shut down at any moment? Join Gab. They have their own hardware, their own connection to the internet backbone, and their own software which they developed. That is where Free speech is, not this fake ‘Truth Social’.
I plugged in my email here; http://truthsocial.com/ within the first couple of weeks. Not a word of news.
I agree with that. But even then, I think the point I was making will still hold. The masses are too easily sucked into false promises and smiple stories. The world is more complicated and less forgiving than the common man appreciates. The press (which is and always has been controlled by the powerful and moneyed) is a tool of the powerful. It has never been honest or objective.
A big fundamental problem, in addition to that, is that the government institutions are intellectually and morally corrupt, for the most part. They are puppets pulled by the same money intersts that operate the media, entertainment and advertising industries.
Those interests want the public divided. That condition helps presenreve the illusion of popular/public control (e.g., elections, supposedly low barrier to participation) of government.
On Musk and twitter, I think him taking it over would be great, even if it is money down a rat-hole for him, it is destructive to the current order at Twitter. A sign that the megaphone can be swiped.
Using a “cloud vendor” is putting your fate in the hands of someone you have no real control over.
Sure, you can sue if you are shut down, but your company will still be dead.
I’m a firm believer in free enterprise. There are scores of ways to earn money for anything you may want in the u.S.
Good analysis. Time will tell…
“ Well, aren’t you just SPECIAL?”
Yes, I actually am as I was fearfully and wonderfully created by the Creator and so are you.
Also, I have the ability to post useful user experience so that others may know about it without attacking others.
Again, it’s not an issue if it’s not even available yet. An issue is it being available but always down. That’s like complaining a video game developer has a game out for one platform, but not for others, and that it’s an issue as they’ve said it will be out for multiple platforms at a later date.
I don’t think that reality matters to the Haters.
They must hate it. They just must.
You know, the biggest turn off is that we are not allowed to have an opinion. Anything other than unquestioning, unwavering worship makes you subject to ridicule, insults and threats. Do you remember the early Zero years, how right here on FR we laughed and mocked them for their belief that he was some type of Guru, super human that was going to save the world! Look at us, but somehow it’s different? It’s the same.
Well like it or not, this is what they needed, they clearly did not have the capability to scale adequately without it.
That cuts both ways, and clearly look at the personal attacks simply because I like Truth Social.
Actually, Cloud offerings are far more cost effective that purchasing and maintaining your own hardware, that’s why they exist.
I can run a small server for pennies a month, add an database for a few more bucks. Obviously the more computing power and storage etc you use the more you pay, but cloud offerings are almost ALWAYS a cheaper option in the long run.
You can’t browse Truth Social postings without being registered. That was never a problem with Twitter and, obviously, Free Republic.
I won’t join for that reason.
Ok cool. I don’t like EV’s due to their limits and environmental disasters they cause. I dont like Twitter and found browsing on that site very limited without joining. Not easy to use that much even as a member.
But I don’t call Twitter users silly names if they like they’re platform.
🤣
That’s for a small operation, but how does that scale for unlimited users - all interconnected instantly: what I say on something is instantly reflected in a million (for example) other users accounts?
Where does the billions of dollars need to run such an operation with 100 million users come from? Not ads, not with every new user costing money to incorporate into the system.
If my memory serves me correctly, Amazon Cloud Services killed Parler while it was still in the cradle.
A wise man takes lessons from the misfortunes of others.
It scales because you can add more or less virtual processing as needed.
If you run something like this on your own hardware, you need to own, build out and support the hardware and the infrastructure around it... this is a large cost, with no economies of scale... YOU HAVE to assume the cost of EVERYTHING.
Cloud leverages the economies of scale, Cloud provider may have 1 very very very larger piece of hardware, and multiple different customers are all using parts of it simultaneously.
Customer just pays for what they use. I am not saying its super cheap, but compared to the overhead of building out and maintaining our own hardware it is insanely cheaper.
Having been involved in data center build outs for organizations, I can tell you, the cost and other benefits of the cloud are real... it isn’t just the mom and pops who win.... Like nearly everything if it wasn’t a net win financially for the customers, they wouldn’t do it.
Social Media, and this is where most folks don’t understand, if you are a member of a social media platform, you are NOT the customer... YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. Same is true of GOOGLE... money is made by collecting your personal information and selling it or leveraging it in various ways to make the social media company money.
Google operates on the same model... Ads don’t drive Google’s revenue... collecting data about you, and selling it, or the insights gained from it are.
Just like the post office, you are a product not a consumer, the post office sells the fact they deliver mail to you to the bulk mailers.... Sure there are other revenue streams as well, but buy and large, you are a product not a consumer.
Social Media, every new member is more revenue... and the revenue garnered per user is greater than the cost each user takes... and that is how it all works.
So in the short term, yes, a company may lose money to build up enough users to hit critical mass, but once there, they make BILLIONS of of those users, and most if it is indirect. Basically they get rich collecting and selling your personal information, and most folks are clueless and have no idea.
