A third of healthcare workers took sick leave after being vaccinated against COVID-19, a German study has found.
Little information is available, however, on the incidence of side-effects in healthcare workers. This is important because, if it leads to them taking time off, it could put already under-pressure healthcare systems under extra strain.
To find out more, Dr. Alexander Gabel evaluated healthcare workers given at least one dose of the four following COVID-19 vaccines: BioNTech/Pfizer (Comirnaty), Moderna (Spikevax), Oxford/AstraZeneca (VaxZevria) and Janssen.
588 healthcare workers (32.72%) took sick leave overall, amounting to 1,777 sick days. Average length of sick leave was two days.
Workers were most likely to take sick leave after the third dose of the vaccine. While only 5.65% of the participants took a sick leave after their first administration (mostly after receiving a vector vaccine), 20.66% took a sick leave after the second dose and 27.31% after the third one. Median length of sick leave was 2 days and lasted up to 47 days.
Most of the 5.65% of the participants took sick leave after their first dose of the vaccine. Most of these had been given the viral vector vaccines (Oxford/AstraZeneca and Janssen).
Those given the mRNA jabs (BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna) were most likely to take sick leave after their second or third dose.
Sick leave after the third dose was significantly longer after the Moderna vaccine than the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine.
The relative number of self-reported side effects decreased from first to second to third vaccination.
There were significant differences in the number of side effects reported by those who received the BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Significantly higher rates of side effects were reported after the second and third dose of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine compared to the Moderna vaccine.

Would 100% of vaccinated people have to take sick leave if they got a 5th or 6th shot of the same stuff? Why is the sick leave situation getting worse, rather than better?
I had no problem with the first shot, but was really laid-out with the second.
I had heard of this happening to others, so I scheduled the shot for a Friday. I was fine by the Monday.
How’d your third one work out?
PING
It cost You
A weekend. :)
.
No numbers on
the J+J jab?
I didn’t do the booster - it wasn’t required as I’m no longer working, and I didn’t feel I needed it.
My husband took it, though. He was pretty sick with the second shot, just as I was. No real problem with the booster, though.
It really cost me just the Saturday. I had a mild fever, but the muscle and joint pain were the worst.
I didn’t take the J-J, and I don’t think I know anyone who did.
Most of my coworkers scheduled sick leave in conjunction with their shots in anticipation of feeling sick from it. Some had no issues at all and others were knocked flat for a day or more.
I thought the boosters were to keep these shots working. 🤔
Glad he was okay after his third shot....and, congrats on your retirement!
Thanks.
Neither of us have taken any severe precautions, except that for a long time we worked - actually were forced to work - from home. We keep up our nutrition, think positively, and haven’t even had a cold or ‘flu in many years.
Thank you for your time.
A friend with Factor5Leiden blood abnormality. Got sick with his first Moderna shot. He got much sicker with his second Moderna shot. Then he caught Covid from his mother-in-law who was babysitting his year old child. She had caught it from her husband who had J&J, was obsese and diabetic and had spent 10 days in hospital with Covid. My friend’s wife and the baby also got sick with Covid. She and her mother had both been vaccinated, His father who was also baby sitting did not get sick had taken Moderna. I did not catch anything from them.
I had J&J May and Nov. 2021. The days I went in for those shots I took 500 mg Quercetin, 50 mg. zinc, 2000 mg Vitamin C morning and evening, and 5000 IU Vitamin D. This was in addition to a bunch of other supplements I take daily. I continued to take the 4 extras for the next week after the shots. Except for the 10 minutes pain after having a needle stuck into my shoulder, I had no discomfort or any symptoms as a result of either J&J shot. I take those extras any time I have to go out among people, and I always wear my mask and social distance as much as possible. I am 83. I went to a restaurant dinner around Christmas with 12 people where we passed plates of Chinese food around to share. I asked everyone to hand sanitize before we started passing the food. About 10 days to 2 weeks later I had a day when my nose was running large amounts of clear thin mucus. I took at least 12 grams of Vitamin C that day and night, and the next day I was symptom free and feeling fine. Did I have Covid, is there any way Kaiser Permanente can tell me if I did? I met a woman whose relative had a genetic blood disorder who was told by her doctor NOT to take Pfizer or Moderna. She did anyway, had strokes, and is now permanently disable and cannot work.
The most thing I have discovered is a study in Turkey of almost 250 people who came to their hospitals with Covid. People who were considered for the study had their blood tested before entering the study. When the study was over, the doctors looked at the original blood work and found that NO ONE had an OPTIMUM blood level of Vitamin D. Kaiser Permanente lists Optimum as 50 to 80 ng/mL of Vitamin D. The study I saw listed Optimum as above 70 nmol/L. You have to divide nmol/L by 2.5 to get the US measure of 30 ng/mL. Thus the Turkish figure for Optimum was lower than Kaiser Permanente’s, and still NO ONE who came to the hospital had an optimum level. About half were insufficient, and the rest deficient. My takeaway is that IF YOU WANT TO STAY OUT OF A HOSPITAL, get a blood test for Vitamin D and then start taking enough D to get to the optimum level. You will notice this study used the original Dr. Zelenko 3 drug protocol, plus Vitamin D and half with and half without IV Vitamin C. This was a trial to see if IV Vitamin C could reduce hospital days. It did, quite a bit. But the researchers were most struck by the fact that NO ONE had optimum D levels when they arrived at the hospital. Scientists are realizing that the amount of Vitamin D to prevent bone issues is much lower than what appears to be needed to strengthen immunity. The one death in the study had 3 ng/mL of Vitamin D, extremely deficient.
Unfortunately no link to original article or study
Almost everyone in North America is at least somewhat deficient in vitamin D these days. We take a D3 supplement every day.
I don’t know how antibody tests work, once you’ve taken the vaccine. Maybe someone else knows.
I picked the J+J if FORCED
but I never had to make that decision. Hopefully
This can all go away but it seems to be ongoing,
Peace Brudda!

Care to share your age and comorbidity factors?
Good. More time to devote to your cats and making sammches.
Of "unknown origin".
Uh huh.
Were all the kids vaxxed...?
There's a mention of similar cases in the US.
