WASHINGTON, Wednesday, April 23.
ANOTHER COMMISSIONER NOMINATED.
To-day the President nominated RUFUS KING, ex-Postmaster-General, to the Senate, as Commissioner under the Emancipation act, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the withdrawal of BERRETT. The fact aroused a storm of indignation among the Republican Senators. They assert that when they fought BUCHANAN's Administration oat of power, and Mr. LINCOLN's in, they did not suppose the latter would call more than three of BUCHANAN's Cabinet to assist him in administering the affairs of the Government; but as Mr. KING is the fourth -- Dix, HOLT and STANTON already holding fat offices -- they think it is about time to stop, especially when there are known to be better men with larger claims to the important office. One reason why the Senators are unusually indignant, is the fact that as long ago as when the President nominated Mr. BERRETT, before Mr. KING was thought of for the place, a petition, signed by seventeen United States Senators, lay before the President, asking him to appoint ROBERT BEAL, Esq. The following it an extract of that petition:
"Mr. BEAL is one of the oldest residents of this city, having resided here since 1808. By profession he is a lawyer, and practiced here for eight years. He possesses every qualification for the position, and the undersigned sincerely desire he may be appointed.
(Signed,) H.B. Anthony, J.M. Hobart, T.O. Howe, L.F.S. Foster, Z. Chandler, H.S. Lane, D. Clark, J.W. Grimes, Solomon Foot, J.K. Doolittle, B. F. Wade, Wm. P. Fessenden, James Dixon, J.F. Simmons, Edgar Cowan, J. Collamer, James Harlan.
Mr. KING was not only in the Buchanan Cabinet with Mr. STANTON, the present Secretary of War, but the two have occupied offices together since, whether as business partners or not I cannot say.

There have been several Rufus King’s in American history. Sadly, no one give their boys that honorable name (except the Wainwrights). This Rufus King was the grandson of the founding father Rufus King who was born in Scarborough Maine. This appointment which apparently was rejected by the Senate does not even merit mention in his wiki page. His son, Rufus Kung, Jr. was also a civil war officer.
