FORTRESS MONROE, Monday, April 21, via BALTIMORE, Tuesday, April 22.

A flag of truce was received to-day.

A Petershurgh paper of this morning, says that the Senate has refused to concur in the House resolution for adjournment.

The same paper also contains a report of a repulse of a National force under Gen. BURNSIDE, at Elizabeth City. It is stated that the National troops, 5,000 strong, attempted to land there, but were repulsed, with a loss of 500 killed, by a Confederate force of 1,000, including a Georgia regiment. The rebel loss id killed is stated at 15, including Capt. MCCOUN and Lieut.- WILSON, both of the Georgia regiment.

A report of the same fight, to the same effect, was current in Norfolk last night.

There is nothing new from Yorktown, except that matters are progressing satisfactorily.

WASHINGTON, Tuesday, April 22.

All was quiet at Fortress Monroe and Yorktown to-day at 1 o'clock P.M. The weather was pleasant, the army in high health, and operations progressing favorably.

NEAR YORKTOWN, Thursday, April 16, 1862.

Our forces kept up an incessant fire on the enemy's works, yesterday, although it was not intended by us to bring on any general engagement; our object being to demolish some earthworks that the rebels had thrown up in front of their left wing the night previous, and opposite the line of Gen. HAMILTON's Pickets.

To accomplish this, Capt. BEAM, of the First New-Jersey Battery, at 7 o'clock A.M., proceeded with four Parrot guns to the front, and placed them in position bearing upon the earthworks, and opened fire upon a large party of rebels that were engaged in strengthening and extending them. After a few rounds had been fired, the enemy responded with a 20-pounder Parrot gun, directing their fire principally to one gun.

Somewhere in time I recall reading a diary entry from a Confederate soldier at Yorktown talking about eating possums. They roll it into a mudball then bake it under hot coals without gutting them. Once cooked they’d open the baked mud and chow down.
