FAA Rules YouTuber Trevor Jacob Purposely Crashed Airplane
Aviation Weekly News ^ | 4/20/2022 | AWN

Posted on 04/22/2022 5:47:15 AM PDT by jaydubya2

In a letter sent to Trevor Jacob by the FAA on April 11, the FAA said he had violated federal aviation regulations and operated his single-engine aircraft in a “careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.” The agency said it would immediately revoke Trevor Jacob’s private pilot certificate, effectively suspending his license to operate any aircraft.

When contacted by The New York Times via email Trevor appeared unaware of the FAA’s ruling and replied, “Where’d you get that information?” to their email, they also said he did not immediately respond to follow-up emails.

Trevor Jacob posted a video to his YouTube channel last week in which he addressed the airplane crash controversy saying “I can’t talk about it, per my attorney. But the truth of that situation will come out with time, and I’ll leave that at that.”

The FAA does not have the ability to prosecute Trevor, it can only revoke and suspend certificates as well as issue fines. The FAA has ordered Trevor to surrender his private pilot license (PPL) threatening further legal action if he does not do so, this includes a penalty of up to $1,644 for each day he does not surrender it.

You tube should have demonitized the video as an illegal act and banned him.

for whatever reason, I don’t see this being an issue at all unless he hurt someone, damaged someone else’s property, or filed an insurance claim for it.

People wreck their cars all the time. Mostly its by accident but sometimes its through stupidity. I have personally witnessed a friend wreck his car when we were 17 years old but he never filed a claim for it and he didn’t damage anything but a tree in his back yard.

How is this any different? Its not. So unless he damaged other’s property, or harmed someone, this is completely government overreach, once again.

Except the government owns the skies. They clamp down strongly on stupid acts in the air, figuring there is a greater threat to public safety.

the government owns the roads too. who cares. Its over-reach. The dude is a dumbass for dumping a $50k airplane, but he didn’t harm anyone but himself. The government shouldn’t involve itself in such things.

It was as plain as day that he intentionally crashed the airplane. The FAA should make him eat the wreckage…without any ketchup.

He engaged in intentionally reckless behavior that very well could have injured someone, started a forest fire, etc. It was dumb luck that didn't happen. Do we really want people who are willing to engage in such reckless behavior flying around? It's no different than people who drive drunk. We don't want them on the road endangering people so we yank their licenses even if they haven't yet injured anyone.

He’s in the air. Reckless behavior in the sky does indeed put lives and property of others at risk. A backyard tree is not the same thing as that.

I see you’re one of those gun control people. Its the same thing. Did he harm someone? Did he harm another’s property? No. This is a big nothing burger. Unless there is actual harm- financial losses, or physical injury to another person, the government should not be involved. P E R I O D.

As far as drinking and driving- you could easily come up with real statistics to show the possibility of harm where this is concerned because it happens so frequently. It would be hard to come up with such for this bonehead event. But even with that, the government does NOT just revoke your license to drive on the first offense. You get caught, you pay a big fine, you have to go to a weekend reeducation thing (here in Ohio) and you have to pay a shitload for insurance for 5 years, but you don’t lose your license for the first two times you get caught.

Whatever. You are free to think what you want to think, but really, its government overreach just like i’ve said.

Its illegal to hurt people.
Its illegal to kill people.
its illegal to damage other people’s property.
Its even illegal to destroy other people’s property.

We don’t need redundant laws and we don’t need more government overreach or oversight.

I don't agree with you there. While the chances were probably remote, the plane could well have crashed into somebody's property or even injured or killed somebody on the ground. Dumping a plane on purpose in order to apparently generate a viral YouTube video is a reckless and inconsiderate act.

Also, who is going to go pick up all the pieces of the crashed plane?

Loss of license and a stiff fine seem appropriate here. Also, he should be made responsible to recover and dispose of the crashed plane at his own expense.

Don’t get me wrong, that guy is an absolute idiot. There are so many things that could have gone wrong, not the least of which is killing someone.

Lets just say that I lack any sort of trust where the government is involved, and think they should bother us less and not more.

With freedom should come individual responsibility.

He dumped an airplane on property that does not belong to him. He should be responsible for cleaning it up and if he damaged any property, he should be held liable.

Even in a free society, actions have consequences.

I'm in favor of keeping guns out of the hands of those who have exhibited grossly irresponsible behavior in handling them. If a guy walks down a street randomly shooting his gun but doesn't hit anything or anyone, he not only should be prohibited from owning a gun but should be arrested.

The problem is grossly irresponsible people will eventually hurt someone if they are permitted to continue the activity. What would this moron do next if he were permitted to keep his license? Maybe he would land on a highway? Or fly under the Golden Gate bridge? Or engage in some other reckless activity that has tremendous potential for causing damage or injury. The goal is to make sure reckless people are stopped BEFORE they cause injury or damage. This has nothing to do with government overreach and everything to do with protecting society from reckless idiots.
