'Disney should stop trying to bring its California values to Florida': GOP lawmaker reminds woke conglomerate that it's a GUEST in the Sunshine State and revoking its special privileges is long overdue

A Florida lawmaker has slammed Disney for wading into the political debate surrounding the so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bill and says the company is a guest in the state and doesn't deserve special privileges.

Republican Representative Randy Fine, 48, told CNBC's Squawk Box that Florida should eliminate Disney's self-governing status after the company injected itself into the 'Don't Say Gay' bill debate.

'When Disney kicked the hornets nest several weeks ago, we started taking a look at special districts. And we found that six of them had been created before the Florida constitution was actually put in place.

'And they had all sorts of weird things in them - for example, Disney had the right to take land outside of their district, they had the right to build a nuclear power plant without state oversight, they didn't have to follow zoning laws or safety codes. We said some of these things just don't make sense, not only in Disney, but in five other special districts around the state,' the representative said.

Florida's special districts were established in 1967, giving the districts near-total control over the area, which excludes them from state regulations. However, the districts are still subject to property tax and inspections, CNBC reported.

Disney's land sits within the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It is a semi-private, special-purpose government and is controlled by Disney and spans 39 square miles.

The creation of the district in Florida was a crucial element in the company's plans to build near Orlando in the 1960s.

Fine also said he believed in 'free markets' and that the 'state of Florida for 55 years has given Disney special privileges that its competitors down the street don't get.'

I recently found out that there are residential homes located on Disney property. My understanding is that only certain people are allowed to purchase and live in those homes.

Since most Disney execs are white males I'm thinking those restrictions will have to go.

It would be hilarious if some of the Disney properties were purchased by rightwingers who became a thorn in the side of Disney.

Hey Randy Fine, maybe stop drinking the kool-aid and thinking CA agrees with this woke nonsense, does this jerk think that the Chinese people love communism just because they are forced to live under a communist government?

No. Scattersite Section-8 housing is the way to go, with a number of multi-family low-income dwellings mandated as well.

Those are so Disney can claim that “all the voters in this district said this was okay”.

I posted this to another thread, but it applies to this entire incident:

“Setting that aside, this needed doing for one reason alone, if nothing else.

The Reedy Creek deal allows Disney to have their own private police, fire and EMS. Plus their own municipal court and jail.

Think about that. They can arrest you, charge you and put you in jail for offending the company if they want and your attorney will have to appeal (thus spending a bunch more money and time) to get your case out of the Disney empire.

They also don’t have to answer to anyone but the company if they choose to *not* serve someone, or if they refuse to prosecute a case. They don’t even have to meet state minimums for fire/EMS coverage other than having ‘some’ - which has been shown to not be enough as several people have died in Disneyworld due to insufficient coverage.”

So Colorado Governor says, “Come to Colorado and you can do whatever you want with the children.” I wonder how many fiefdoms Colorado has now?

Just take WDW over and run it as a State-controlled entity. It’s a threat to public safety, targeting the welfare of children.

They’re taking over families and children so take their corporations over first wherever they reside.

Sorry Disney... You got political and you're paying the price... Now, I knew Mickey was gay... Not marrying Minnie.

I bet Mickey is co habitating with Donald... 🤓
