Textbooks are like children’s TV shows. There are new versions every year, but versions from 40 or 50 years ago are superior and still usable.
Yah, that is what struck me. What, are the values for x and y supposed to be tied to A, B, or C?
Even if so (I’m not gonna bother to solve for them), the text is a setup. Why not simply state a political or racist position as an aside? Couldn’t be less obvious.
In the real world, parents don’t want their children to be marinated in a toxic stew of race hatred and sexual abnormalities.
Why not name the “teachers” who allowed this crap into their classroom?
It’s funny how “education of girls” is held as an unassailable social good - when what is actually happening is the inculcation of collectivist propaganda into the minds of those without a sufficient frame of reference to ever overcome it.
Maya Angelou was involved in protests supporting Fidel Castro in the early 1960’s that was the same cause Lee Harvey Oswald was involved in back in those days.
Public education is top down where I live and someone at state level rolls this crap “down the hill” and your average RINO politician at least the one’s here in Pennsylvania would not dream of shaking up the Department of Education bureaucracy that mandates this crap to 500 plus school districts.
Where’s the outrage from teachers? This has been going on some time and we hear crickets from teachers. Simply put, anyone that has a degree in education should never be allowed close to children.
Why are math problems multiple-choice?
The kids should be working out the problem and showing their work. There is no focus on the math part of the math test.
Do you have any idea what grade level is the test?
What would the teacher say if a student asks for the meaning of the words during a test?

UPDATE: It has come to our attention that a leading candidate for president’s team has Tweeted out a resource that was published under our previous company and the content was edited and removed 8 years ago. Why or how it is recirculating now is unclear. When I was still a classroom teacher 10 years ago, I was concurrently teaching Algebra 1 and a seminar on Human Trafficking at the new International High School. Ohio is hub of human trafficking and 1 and 5 girls are victims of sexual assault prior to the age of 18. In collaboration, with local human trafficking they sought to destigmatize sexual abuse, create awareness, and deromanticize words like “pimp”. Additionally at the International school hoped we could infuse more international content throughout their curriculum. Generally, this meant I as the math teacher created deep dives with international data or international issues, but we also created Person Puzzles and Adventure activities to help do this. This Maya Angelous worksheet is an example of a quick surface level infusion, and I wrote 300 “Person Puzzles” about different people as a quick practice activity. In this particular case it was paired with Systems of Equations which is a topic encountered by 14-16 year old students — students that are the prime age to be victims (or perpetrators) of sexual violence.
So what if it was 8 years ago. It had nothing to do with math. He took it upon himself to inject his views on social issues into algebra.

The purpose of teaching a math course is to teach math. Any included history (or "person puzzle") should be about the history (or mathematicians) involved in the specific math subject being taught, and NOT woketardian diversity propaganda or instruction about current or historical persons having nothing to do with the specific mathematics being taught.

Personally....I shun government teachers. They are too evil, too stupid, or too much of a Useful Idiot to be a friend.
It’s worse than that. The two problems have more than one correct math answer. So if you don’t know the Maya Angelou BS, You could get the answer counted as wrong, even though the math answer was correct.
Evil.
Erp. Never mind, there is only one correct answer for both equations.
