Couple keeps COVID-19 at bay for over 2 years, then they went on a cruise

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – A South Florida couple is back home from a cruise vacation and they are issuing a warning. They said they were shocked when they found themselves in the middle of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Still, there is no official word from Celebrity Cruise Lines, which is why the couple wanted to share their story with Local 10 News.

I was on the celebrity Apex cruise ship March 26, I had no issues. I did not hear of any Covid outbreaks on the ship. snip

What is the appeal of being crammed on a boat with 1000’s of other people for a ‘vacation’?

I've never had the sense of being "crammed on a boat" while on a cruise. Actually quite the contrary. I always had plenty of room to move about these giant ships and there are many things to do. Cruise ships are built in such a way that you never feel that crowded when on them. Except, maybe that one time when everybody has to get on the deck for the mandatory lifeboat instructions.

Things can be much more crowded on a public beach or at an amusement park where you have to line up just to use the public restroom. On a ship, you have your own private cabin when you have to go.

Also, for all the yip-yip-yapping about "floating petri dishes", how come we never hear that said about naval ships?

just talking the other day with a co-worker on how most people lack the concept of “volume” and how deceiving it can be.

The Navigator is smaller compared to the Oasis but yet even after 7 nights onboard i barely experienced anything considering what that ship had to offer.

Yet i STILL had a GREAT Time.
i had broken up with long time GF right before the cruise then i miraculously met a Miami TV weather girl and her 2 friends on the first night and hung out with them all week.
instantly took me out of my depression.. :)

Covid infections can take 2-14 days after exposure to show up in a person.

Figuring out when and where a person was exposed is next to impossible.

All cruise lines have to face up to this problem, and no matter what the quarantine protocols are, the cruisers aren't going to be happy. -Tom
