While millions of Ukrainians have fled their country since the start of the Russian invasion, nearly a million refugees have also returned to Ukraine as tensions ease in some areas of the country. In the last week alone, around 330,000 Ukrainian refugees have returned to their country, with a total of 870,000 having returned in total so far. A spokesman for Ukrainian Border Security has claimed that between 25,000 and 30,000 Ukrainians are returning to the country each day. While nearly a million people have returned, the number of those who have fled the country still heavily outweighs those who have returned as an estimated 4.6 million people have fled the country since the conflict with Russia began in February, the European Union-funded website InfoMigrants reports.....

"According to the Ukrainian Border Security spokesman, most of the returnees are women, children and elderly people. ‘They say they see that the situation is safer, especially in the western regions, and they cannot stay abroad any longer,’ "

How many British fled in WW2? How many French fled? I am sure some did, but not all that many.
Refugees return? Hasn’t been our experience here.
The men are not allowed to leave.
Earlier it was possible for some to get out but now it is more strict.
There’s a lot of people in the trench who just want to leave.
The US and UK want Ukraine to fight down to the last man, they say no to negotiated settlement
When the British sent their young children to the “neutral” US, their ship was torpedoed. All the children were lost.
Half of France was Vichy-governed, so there was no need to flee.
A major wave of Europeans left AFTER the war.
The Ukrainian victories have removed the Russian threat to large parts of the country.
There may still be some missiles, but If you are from Odessa or Kiev the risk from returning is low. The Russian advances on those cities have been repulsed.
Unlike so other “refugees”, the Ukrainians refuges ran away from bombs and missiles. They are almost exclusively women, children and elderly, seeking some shelter from the war.
They want to return home ASAP.
It looks now, that the fighting ceased, so they are returning.
However, the Russians are regrouping, the fighting may restart soon.
“The US and UK want Ukraine to fight down to the last man, they say no to negotiated settlement”
The issue is not the foreign powers, it’s the Ukrainian troops. Their morale is sky-high after their series of victories. Your average Ukrainian grunt believes it is just a matter of time before the Ukrainian flag is flying over Sevastopol.
Any Ukrainian government that surrenders a foot of land to the Russians will be thrown out in a mass revolt of the soldiers.
Lol.
Great site for up to the minute Ukraine news. https://liveuamap.com/ Odessa will be the next Maripol.
Highly unlikely (making Odessa into Mariupol). The Russians havent the men to make that happen. Mariupol was bad enough, for the Russians, and that was playing to their one clear advantage in gross firepower. Thats not going to help in the mobile warfare that its going to take to take them to Odessa in the first place.
That seems to be the case.
The Ukrainian leadership is driven as much by bottom-up imperatives as the other way around. At some point that happens in most wars.
I hope that the returning Ukrainians get a band new AK47 with a boat load of ammo.
