When otherwise intelligent people do things that don’t make sense, it means they are doing those things for reasons that are hidden.
Their battle to prevent - at all costs - this particular takeover stinks to high heaven. It is becoming very clear that this is not at all about money. There is something else they don’t want to lose. And I think we know what it is.π
βPower is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.β

Totally agree. This is about power and information control.
That being said, I do wonder about their internal accounting and sources of income. I think Twitter (and other social media companies) are actually part of the government. If government funds are flowing into or out of Twitter in unorthodox fashion, that would really be eye-opening. If the company is controlled by "the right people" I think they could shield bad/illegal practices from prying eyes.
But if Musk gets in there, and pays for some forensic accounting, any funny business done by Twitter and/or the Deep State could come to light. That could make a house of cards fall over. People might get curious about Facebook and Google too.
