parklet???
How many times is the article going to say “parklets” before it says what a “parklet” is??
I like these outdoor seating areas. It’s one of the few things coming out of the coof that I actually like!
Basic stupidity on the part of the local government. If it works...why cut it off for no real reason.
Good. I’m guessing this is where restaurants spill out into the parking spaces for outside Covid seating. Carmel doesn’t have enough parking anyway.
Didn’t these restaurants get a lot of Restaurant Recovery Fund bailout money?
You can even download the data file and scroll through the info. A hyooj Excel file. Very interesting.
So it was perfectly okay to construct a new smaller restaurant on parking spots? I guess so if the city was raking in 7500 bucks a month from every restaurant. What a scam.
sticky situation...
The parklets have served to increase their seating capacity giving them more revenue.
I personally do not like them.
You have to physically negotiate around waiters, dogs and those waiting for a table.
As a Californian who prefers outdoor dining anyway, I love the parklets and especially the ones in Carmel—they are charming and well decorated (as is everything in Carmel).
But once in a while a heat lamp is hit by a passing car I understand; it’s a bit dangerous to be eating right on the street actually.
I live on the edge. In dreamy Carmel, anyway.
