The Russian navy cruiser Moskva by far is the most powerful warship in the Black Sea. If Russian President Vladimir Putin orders his troops to widen their war in Ukraine, Moskva, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, undoubtedly would lead the naval assault.
Think of Moskva as a 12,500-ton, 612-foot mobile missile battery with nearly 500 people aboard. She packs enough anti-ship missiles to wipe out the entire Ukrainian navy and enough air-defense missiles to swat away any conceivable aerial attack on the Black Sea Fleet’s amphibious flotilla.
Moskva’s value to a Ukraine operation could make her a top target of Ukraine’s missileers.

Sure the ship is ‘packed with weapons’ - but it’s doubtful many of them actually function. I’ve been on Russian ships, and their missile tubes had so many coats of paint, it’s doubtful they can even open them without several needleguns and sledgehammers.

Breaking: #Russia acknowledges fire onboard Moskva naval ship, says as a result of a fire, ammunition detonated, causing severe damage to the ship. The crew has been completely evacuated and the causes of the fire are being investigated. (RIA NOVOSTI)
Silly, the ship was sunk to put out the fire. It was a command decision to preserve C&C.
“Comrade, we have decided YOU will wake up Dear Leader Putin and inform him that his Flagship Moskva has been destroyed”!
In 1994 the Kursk sank thanks to a bad weld in a torpedo. Better for the Russian armed forces to believe that their boats can sink by accident. ;^) Thanks RACPE.
The plane crash at Pushkin airfield on February 7, 1981 became the very last accident in the Tupolev Tu-104 history, after which they were permanently retired from service. But the main reason the disaster at Pushkin airfield went down in history was because this single crash had almost entirely beheaded the Soviet Pacific Fleet. That day, in just a few seconds, the Soviet Navy lost 16 admirals and generals, including the commander of the Pacific Fleet admiral Emil Spiridonov. When the Soviet Navy Lost 16 Admirals in a Single Accident: The Tu-104 Crash at Pushkin
