Two female police dispatchers were smoking cigarettes while standing on the sidewalk outside the police department on Wednesday, Hamlin Police Chief Bobby Evans said.

CCTV footage shows that moments after the women head back inside, a Tesla speeds onto the sidewalk and crashes alongside the building.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, hit the corner of the city hall building and knocked down the awning pillars of five store fronts, Evans said.

"...driver had fallen asleep as he was coming into Hamlin."

Must be a real happenin' place.

That video takes your breath away when you see how vulnerable those two women were. They would never have survived being mowed down by that speeding car. Well, if they did survive, it would be as a quadriplegic.

Folks, driving a Tesla does not change your requirement that you are to keep your eyes on the road and follow all traffic laws.

I think these people should be given to MS-13 to be used for victim practice.

Gack! Tesla aside, this is a semi-literate millennial writing ALERT.
"...moments after the women head back inside, a Tesla speeds onto the sidewalk and crashes alongside the building."
I'd wager his elementary school failed to teach basic English and tense, probably because his teachers were semi-literate dunces as well.

He wrote it in present tense. I don't see the problem.

That would have not ended well, if they’d stayed out for another smoke.

Seriously, the out of control Tesla picks a police station to go crazy at, in full view of cameras and female victims?

Could you write a better script for an anti-Tesla (anti-Elon) series of articles?

Did it occur right now? Or in the past?

Events in a video or a movie are commonly described in present tense. For example, this is from the Wikipedia synopsis of the 1935 movie Captain Blood:

"In 17th-century England, Irish doctor Peter Blood is summoned to aid Lord Gildoy, a wounded patron who participated in the Monmouth Rebellion. Arrested while performing his duties as a physician, he is convicted of treason against King James II and sentenced to death by the infamous Judge Jeffreys. By the whim of the king, who sees an opportunity for profit, Blood and the surviving rebels are transported to the West Indies to be sold into slavery."
