BELLEVIEW, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was killed when he and another teen took turns shooting at each other while wearing a form of body armor, according to the Belleview Police Department.

Went over to kids place yesterday, the roommate was kitted out with full vest and a bunch of standard capacity magazines.

I was like, umm I came to help my kid change his brakes, Is there something I should be aware of ?

Are you expecting other company?

roommate said I just got this yesterday and I am testing fit and comfort, fortunately did not ask me to shoot him.

IIRC, lead ‘round ball’ projectiles intended for black powder firearms travel a lot farther than BBs; and home-made incendiary projectiles (made from “strike anywhere” matches & wire ;>) were also reputed to be fun...

The roommate also showed me some 3/8 steel plates with holes the size of a penny that he had just made with a 50bmg

Pretty impressive

That reminds me of a story I read in a bio of the great WW II ace, Tommy McGuire. He and the son of a prominent man got out their beanflips and started shooting fence staples at each other. It ended w/ the other boy having to have a staple extracted from his thigh.

McGuire was a crazy hot-rodder, too (which probably was part of making him capable of shooting down 39 zekes and betties).

You used to be able to go to the drug store and buy the ingredients for black powder. It was embarrassing going to school with no eyebrows.

I worked a couple of summers at a paper mill in maintenance. Plant manager instituted bump hats for all of us unless we were doing something that required a hard hat. One day a fellow was taking a break, sitting on a bench. Another guy figured he’d see how good the bump hat was. Hit the fellow with a hammer. Passed out briefly from the blow. He was ok, fortunately. I think the fellow with the hammer got a good talkin’ too.

Years ago, I found some railroad 'mainline' tie plates, in a trash pile off a spur to an abandoned mine. I hauled a couple along on a visit to a friend's ranch in west Texas, and he set them up as targets. Don't imagine they would stand up to .50 BMG, but they shrugged off the 7.62 NATO FMJ he was shooting in an FAL. Good cheap 'steel targets' if you ever come across any...

The confusing story still doesn’t say HOW the kid was shot!

WHERE the kid was shot.

WHY the kid was killed.

I’ll GUESS. It doesn’t say how close together the FOUR additional shots were fired, but I’ll guess muzzle jump. Probably shot him ABOVE the vest.

It would be interesting to get some actual DETAILS from a story.
