Even setting aside their recently revealed support for destroying human happiness through sexual chaos, Disney’s products push a lifestyle that doesn’t reflect my goals for family life. I don’t want my kids taught to be whiny brats whose biggest lesson to learn is that all authority figures are dumb or evil. That’s a main message of almost every major Disney property, and it’s very bad for kids.
Other destructive and pervasive Disney messages include that men (especially dads) are stupid and bad, women can do no wrong, women need to validate themselves by beating people up more fiercely than the boys do, celebrity is something to aspire to (instead of being a good person), and “if it feels good, do it.” These are terrible values that can and do destroy people just as much as severing their genitals. I have no interest in supporting these messages with my money or my children’s attention. So we have never been a Disney family, and we never will be.
Dollywood, on the other hand, that I can get into. The only message Dollywood pushed is that people should love each other. Oh, and “Love Every Moment.” Who can feel uncomfortable with that? Here’s a little rundown about what I liked best about Dollywood, what I didn’t, and what worked for our family in terms of logistics.

Once you’re in Dollywood, you don’t have to keep buying tickets or tokens for more rides. Pay the entrance fee and you get all the rides you can manage.***

After reading idiotic comments on here I’m going to go to Dollywood for sure!
We love Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The kids when they were young had a fantastic time there. We rented a luxury cabin in the mountains and drove down to the cities for entertainment which was endless. We made it to Dollywood and I highly recommend it. It’s time to go back to Tennessee.
Walter Knott, founder of Knott's Berry Farm was a pillar of conservatism and patriotism in Orange County. His Americanism Educational League provided financing as well as audio-visual and print materials to grassroots activist groups throughout the area. However, the Farm was sold several years ago and is no longer run by the Knott family.
My mother was a waitress at the Chicken Dinner Restaurant, which is still in business, back when Knott's was actually a berry farm. Walter Knott's wife Cordelia was her boss. Some of the chickens they served came from her brother's chicken ranch in Anaheim, which was located where Disneyland now stands.
A trip to Disney with the kids . . . are you kidding?
Went to Dollywood when they were having their Gospel Music Competition. It was fun.
Been to Knott’s Berry Farm too. Low key and also fun.
Knotts- Bigfoot rapids!
We’ll be there at the Dixie Stampede this summer....
Then you would enjoy the Dali museum in St Pete, FL. Highly recommended.
Yes , 80 million times 2,000 bucks less per year. Should put a bit of a dent. Use the money to homeschool and start your own wholesome media or activity.
I do believe when it comes to issues of sexuality Dolly Parton leans toward the “woke” side.
Regret to hear it. But ... entertainers? What are they?
$2,000? When was the last time you were at Disney World. A family of four would be lucky to spend a week for less than about $7,000 or so, and the price has rocketed upward even more in the last year or so.
I was in Pigeon Forge last June. No visible fire damage anywhere. The fire last week was several miles west of the town.
The big fire of 5 or 5 years ago was in Gatlinburg.
Dollywood is surprisingly nice and a great time for the kids. Much cheaper, too
There’s been another fire: https://whnt.com/news/tennessee-news/pigeon-forge-fire-spans-30-acres-roughly-15-contained/
“luxury cabin in the mountains”
What is a “luxury cabin in the mountains”? One that has a potty indoors and flushes?
To be fair, some of the 'conservative' Republicans are questionable. But Dolly does do quite a bit for the community, especially after the first round of forest fires back in 2016.
And you can visit the Skyline Chili in Dry Ridge.
Yes, Ark Encounter & sister facility Creation Museum are well worth the visit.
Happy Holy Week all!
Ours was three floors. The bottom floor was an entertainment center with a pool table, air hockey, darts, foosball and video games. The two top floors had patios overlooking the Smokies into enternity. It was spectacular.
Then you have the two towns and all their entertainment options. That plus Dollywood. Check out the link below. 20 years in business and going strong.
My wife and I are talking about going back without the kids. It’s been years and they are adults with careers now but the place was so much fun for us and simply beautiful. Just watch to make sure there are no major fires in the Smokies when you plan it out.
