IMHO unless you have a lot more people along, you are probably about as safe being alone as not.

Its not a good idea for anyone, if its not an absolute necessity.
Hiking alone is not a good idea period.
I hiked alone for years, even backpacking.
But, you have to understand the natural world, the rules of mother nature. Leave a notice of your planned trail with someone and expected arrival time back. Even if it is just a day hike.
It matters not if you are a man or a woman. It does matter to have your skills in top condition.
