I don’t think this will help much. In fact, it could be counterproductive, because it will allow people to satisfy the urge for some of the things they are missing without actually having to confront their fears.

When you are depressed and similarly motivated to sequester yourself, you might find some comfort in socializing with people online, but that can also become a crutch to help you avoid actually re-engaging with people and socializing again in the real world. So that’s something to be wary of with schemes like this.
