IRS blames Covid-19 for "reduced staffing" and extensive delays on refunds due U.S. citizen taxpayers

We mailed our 1040-SR on February 2, 2022 at the airport post office. We normally receive our IRS refund direct-deposited by March 10. Like clockwork every year. Except this one. As of April 6, on "Where's My Refund", the IRS can't even tell us when they received our return, much less when our refund is likely to arrive.

We have seven telephone numbers to the IRS yet none of them are answered by a live person. The Taxpayer Assistance Service automated message says if you leave a message it will take 4 weeks for them to return the call. The person speaking on the recording says this with a straight face.

We have filled out Form 911 and faxed it to the IRS three times at three different fax numbers. That was weeks ago. There has been no reply. This federal agency is completely derelict in its duties.

We contacted an SSI/SSDI lawyer he told us his office has to stay on the line for hours to get a live person. That must have been true months ago, but no longer, because now you can't even get a live person at your local IRS office. The recording says most of the offices are closed and redirects you to the IRS.gov website online which is useless.

We tried contacting our Congressperson her website just refers you to the TAS Notice stating you can only leave a message and that Covid-19 emergencies have reduced their staff drastically.

So, IRS employees quit their fancy-salaried federal jobs because they didn't want to take the jab? Or lots of them died from the corona virus? This is what IRS is asking us to believe?

We believe the IRS and the Treasury Department have been hijacked by the left into becoming one huge welfare program. Redistributing tax dollars through all of the "tax credits" and "child care credits" and "stimulus credits" now being claimed by the millions of illegals with ITIN's, all of them filing for all kinds of "tax credits", when they never paid one dime in federal taxes to begin with.

The sheer number of applications has strangled and overwhelmed the IRS's systems. Since Biden was installed in office the rate of border crossings has increased exponentially and now we are seeing one of the first effects this invasion is having on our economy.

Why else is there not one single elected official at the state or federal level or even the media or congress screaming about this dereliction by a federal agency? Where are the investigations and the hearings?

IRS is slow walking paper returns, my 2020 return was just processed and they just charged me a late fee. I just paid it but it the check that they cashed included the late fee already.

They cashed the check in 2 months after they received it but that status page was reporting that they were missing my return for over a year.

"We use the IRS refund to pay our annual property taxes. This year we are delinquent. First time in 38 years."

C'mon, man. Just hire a lawyer; charge them "Penalities" and "Interest", like they'd charge you; sit back and watch the BBB interest rates put you into a higher tax bracket.

The IRS still hasn’t processed our LAST year’s return.

I sent them a large check recently. They cashed it in 3 days.

I did that. UPS shows no record of my shipment, but the Feds readily cashed my check.

My son worked his first part-time job last year. They withheld fed and state taxes. He’s due a refund on both because he didn’t earn more than the standard deduction. Mailed both returns out (told him to file electronically, but he wanted to mail the real thing) on the same day. State refund came early last week. He wants to wait to deposit the state with the federal. I told him to check the expiration date on the state refund. He may not get the federal before the valid through date on the state check expires.

After 20 years, I’m still waiting for the IRS to cite the actual statute that requires me in my situation to file a tax return. I will be more than happy to pay them since there is a reward of about $300,000 for anyone who can prove most people are required to file. I’m not holding my breath for the IRS to get back to me.

And no, I am not a tax protester. I just don’t think I should give the government when there is no requirement.

My e-filed federal return was accepted on March 1. Until early this week the status at “Check my Refund” has been ‘your return processing had been delayed’. Finally, two days ago, the status is now ‘your return is being processed’. It appears that e-filing does not guarantee timely processing for everyone.
