IRS blames Covid-19 for "reduced staffing" and extensive delays on refunds due U.S. citizen taxpayers

We mailed our 1040-SR on February 2, 2022 at the airport post office. We normally receive our IRS refund direct-deposited by March 10. Like clockwork every year. Except this one. As of April 6, on "Where's My Refund", the IRS can't even tell us when they received our return, much less when our refund is likely to arrive.

We have seven telephone numbers to the IRS yet none of them are answered by a live person. The Taxpayer Assistance Service automated message says if you leave a message it will take 4 weeks for them to return the call. The person speaking on the recording says this with a straight face.

We have filled out Form 911 and faxed it to the IRS three times at three different fax numbers. That was weeks ago. There has been no reply. This federal agency is completely derelict in its duties.

We contacted an SSI/SSDI lawyer he told us his office has to stay on the line for hours to get a live person. That must have been true months ago, but no longer, because now you can't even get a live person at your local IRS office. The recording says most of the offices are closed and redirects you to the IRS.gov website online which is useless.

We tried contacting our Congressperson her website just refers you to the TAS Notice stating you can only leave a message and that Covid-19 emergencies have reduced their staff drastically.

So, IRS employees quit their fancy-salaried federal jobs because they didn't want to take the jab? Or lots of them died from the corona virus? This is what IRS is asking us to believe?

We believe the IRS and the Treasury Department have been hijacked by the left into becoming one huge welfare program. Redistributing tax dollars through all of the "tax credits" and "child care credits" and "stimulus credits" now being claimed by the millions of illegals with ITIN's, all of them filing for all kinds of "tax credits", when they never paid one dime in federal taxes to begin with.

The sheer number of applications has strangled and overwhelmed the IRS's systems. Since Biden was installed in office the rate of border crossings has increased exponentially and now we are seeing one of the first effects this invasion is having on our economy.

Why else is there not one single elected official at the state or federal level or even the media or congress screaming about this dereliction by a federal agency? Where are the investigations and the hearings?

We use the IRS refund to pay our annual property taxes. This year we are delinquent. First time in 38 years.

Mailed the return for last year about 360 days ago...still no return. The funny thing is that my state tax return went out on the same day, and in ten weeks...the refund check came. As far as I can see...there must be half of the IRS staff that does home-office and hasn’t accomplished much of anything in twelve months.

If it’s that reliable, why not just have less withheld every year?

If I ever get a refund more than a few hundred dollars I hate myself for not modifying mine or my wife’s W-4 correctly to keep from giving the gubment a free loan.

I submitted my federal and state taxes electronically and got the refunds about a week later. Also, if you get enough refund to pay the property tax you should reduce your withholding so you have the money every month instead of giving the federalist an interest free loan.

I make sure I wind up the year owing the IRS a little bit, so I don’t have to care.

They did the direct-withdrawal of what I owed them the day after I submitted my return. They are NOT slow on ACCEPTING money.

And the money I saved by not over-paying the IRS was in my bank account, ready to pay my real estate taxes with.

Same here. State took 4 days, Feds were back in 10.

Oops, ottokorrekt error. “Federalist” was supposed to be “federales”, with all the implications of a corrupt Latin American government.

They don’t care about the little people.

We are only a source of income for them to fund their plans to destroy this country and remake it into something they think is better.

Didn’t they hire like 50,000 new employees? And also they put into the rules....looking at all transactions of more than $600.

“...the IRS can’t even tell us when they received our return...”

If you’re going to mail in your return always send it with delivery confirmation.

Does it go both ways? How long does it take them to cash your payment check?

It will take a little time to train 50,000 immigrants for the IRS jobs.

At the beginning of the tax season the IRS announced that it had 24,000,000 pieces of unopened mail. That’s 24 Million, with an M. I have not seen an update since then. It’s amazing that ANYBODY paper-mails their return, even if you don’t complain about not getting a refund yet.

....ditto....we use an EA (Enrolled Agent) who files our returns electronically....got a small refund deposited via EFT within a week after the EA filed our return...don’t trust the U.S. Postal Service [sic] at all......

I haven’t gotten my 2020 refund either. I’m feeling pretty resentful.
