The "aggressive" fox that Capitol Police captured Tuesday tested positive for rabies after biting at least nine people around Capitol Hill, according to District of Columbia Department of Health officials.

The female fox was "humanely euthanized" earlier Wednesday in order to test it for rabies, DC Health said Wednesday evening, noting that the agency is contacting "all human victims who were bitten by the fox."

Some on the internet were quick to call for the fox -- who was captured with the help of the Humane Rescue Alliance -- to be freed.

"As a fox, I cannot speak. And too often -- I have nobody to speak for me. They mock me in songs, they wear me as clothes, and they hunt me down like a criminal in my home. For what, I ask you?" the statement said.

If there is a bite the only way to test for rabies is to euthanize the animal and send the severed head to a lab for testing.

The only test for rabies in animals that may be used to guide human rabies risk analysis is the direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) test. There is no live animal test for rabies. The animal’s brain, specifically the entire section of the cerebellum, hippocampus, and brainstem are required to perform the DFA test.

Remember the cure if bit. Used to be like 20 shots in your stomach if you were bit. Is there a easier way now.

That’s similar to the Salem Witch Trials. If the suspect died from the dunking stool, then they were proven innocent. If they didn’t die, then they were sentenced to being burned at the stake as witches.

They don’t for sure, but more likely than not it is the same rabid fox. Rabid foxes bite people that is what they do. My question is if the fox bit anyone else and the person who got bit didn’t report it.

I remember a friend telling me a story about a fox biting someone at her son’s little league game. Her son’s coach grabbed a bat and chased the fox into the woods and killed it. Of course the fox tested positive and the coach had to get the shots, but good on the coach fir ending the problem.

Politicians that got bit are now going to see the efficacy of the Rabies vaccine. They better hope it works better than the mRNA debacle.

Of course and that is why they will be looking out for a rabies outbreak. I bet there is a way to put vaccine in food and that easy food is in store for critters living in DC.
