Oh, deer.

Russian despot Vladimir Putin has had 35 secret meetings with a cancer doctor — and been bathing in the blood of deer antlers, a report said Friday.

The investigative report by the Russian outlet The Project tracked the medical care that the 69-year-old Putin has received since becoming president of Russia a decade ago — and raises serious questions about his health.

“As he aged, concerns about health and longevity have so consumed the president that he has even shown an interest in unconventional medicine,

So I googled it after posting, and there was a 4 yr period when Medvedev was president. However, I’m pretty sure Putin was pulling his strings in the background so it still felt like Putin was in charge.

Yes, it would be the same blood as circulates throughout the buck’s body. Maybe the shaman or quack just requests it be drawn from a vein in the velvet covered summer antlers of a domesticated deer...most likely, reindeer/caribou. Or, could be powdered dried blood from summer- hunted deer. For all Putin knows, it could be just sow’s blood sold to his quack doc as “organic horny reindeer antler blood.”

They do when they’re growing, it’s a covering called velvet and it’s rich with blood.

They aren’t horns like the various antelope in Africa have. Antlers are shed and then regrown every year; they have a blood supply to the core and to the velvet skin.

In antelope (sable, impala, kudu, etc.), a broken or lost horn is permanent. Horns are hollow and made of keratin, same as rhino horns and human fingernails.

The blood rich velvet that molts off of deer antlers (Lu Rong) is highly regarded in traditional Chinese medicine as a tonic, for over 2,000 years.

It must be hard for a busy 69 year old guy to sexually keep up with his 38 year old gymnast wife (Alina Kabaeva). Maybe hard is not the best word to use.

But in Traditional Chinese Medicine, deer antler velvet tonifies the yang.

[NY Post article] The investigative report by the Russian outlet The Project

As a Russian source, April Fools.

Investigation for Vladimir Putin’s 70th birthday

Mikhail Rubin, Dmitry Sukharev, Mikhail Maglov, Roman Badanin, with the participation of Svetlana Reuter (Meduza), April 1, 2022

But see:

https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-proyekt-investigative-agenstvo/31446075.html

Well-known Russian journalist Roman Badanin, who stayed in the United States where he and his family were vacationing when his investigative group Proyekt (The Project) was shut down in Moscow in July, has started a new media outlet aimed at exposing abuses by Russian authorities.

Badanin's U.S.-registered The Project, which published a series of well-researched, unflattering, and sometimes embarrassing investigations into Russia's ruling elite, was closed after the Prosecutor-General's Office in Moscow declared it an "undesirable organization" in mid-July.

On September 6, Badanin announced on Telegram that he had started a new investigative group called Agentstvo (The Agency), a thinly veiled reference to Russia's controversial "foreign agents" law that rights organizations say is used by the Kremlin to stifle civil society and independent media.

In 2018, he founded the Proekt media outlet, which specializes in investigative journalism. Proekt was closed in 2021 after being listed as an undesirable organization, and Badanin left Russia for his safety.

On September 6, 2021, he founded the investigative online media outlet Agentstvo ("Agency").

I live in a Northern Michigan forest. I hunt a lot. I know what an antler is from both whitetail deer and elk. They are dry with ZERO blood contained in them. An antler is actually hair, just like our finger nails and just like the deer’s hooves and antlers. I have a resident herd of whitetail on my land (approx 25-30) and elk winter on my land on top of my hill.

Does antlers have marrow?

As they grow, antlers are covered with skin and soft hair called velvet, which carries blood vessels and nerves. As antlers near the end of the growing process, spongy bone in their outer edges is replaced by compact bone, while their centers become filled with coarse, spongy, lamellar bone and marrow spaces.

The velvet is on the out side of the antler. It’s a thin layer, that’s all.

When the antler is done growing it begins to loosen up and the buck will rub it on trees to get the velvet off.

The buck will sometimes eat the velvet.

The antler itself is dry and the inside does not have a blood supply.

True.

After the velvet is off, and as you can see there is really very little blood from the velvet, the antler dries out and becomes hard enough for battle in the Fall.

Here they start growing antlers in mid May or early June.

The bigger the antlers, the older the deer or elk.
