BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating three stolen bikes that are worth more than $80,000.
Sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8:15 a.m. Thursday, a business in the 2800 block of Wilderness Place was broken into and three bicycles were stolen, according to police. Two of the bikes had unique prototype technology.
The first bike — a black, heavily modified Cervelo P5 triathlon bike — is valued at $40,000 and features a concept drivetrain (shaft drive, no chain) and high-end wheels.
The second bike is a heavily modified Canyon Lux full suspension mountain bike. It is black with blue accents, includes a concept drivetrain (shaft drive, no chain) and is valued at $30,000.
The third bike is a specialized Turbo Levo mountain bike. It's blue with white lettering and is valued at $12,000. Police say it is very similar to the one pictured below.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective C. Hartkopp at 303-441-1951. Those who wish to stay anonymous can contact Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
I’m trying to wrap my head around the first one, no obvious braking system?
I wouldn’t pay $5 for one of those seats. A rider would have to have grudge against his crotch to pound it against that miniature anvil.
Owner is pushing the back-story to provide justification for the huge insurance claims he’s angling for. No ‘bikes’ are worth that.
Boulder is full of privileged trust fund babies with lots of money. Boulder runs the state.
Possibly electronic, tied to the drive shaft? The front hub looks like it could contain an advanced disc brake.
I’ve been to Boulder ONCE. And that was to see Charlton Heston speak.
“Bikes with the shaft drive system are so unusual”
I’d think the two bevel gears would have more friction than a chain. Can it shift gears?
Are those bikes for guys with little p,,,,,,
You know like a Vette:-)
Hideous ridiculous and idiotic machines.
Tour de France? PFFTTT Why don’t they allow recumbents?
For some reason after a recumbent won the 1st TDF they said, nope only stupid ass-crack bikes are allowed from now on.
Recumbents don’t make your junk numb either. I laugh at these posers in lycra going by hunched over on those stupid things.
Recumbents are cool, but I don't trust drivers to see one.
No disrespect was intended FRiend. I’ve just always hated those diamond-frame racing bikes. And a recumbent “bent” should be allowed in the TDF. Or have one just for bents. The reason they won’t is because the bents would make jokes out of those diamond-frames.
You’re right about drivers seeing a “bent” though. My seat is only 15” above the ground. I rode next to a car once and my head was the same height as the driver’s..
Speed and comfort is way better on a bent but it’s a slightly heavier bike. But wind resistance is about half. Such a different experience.
None taken. 8~)
I call ‘em ass hatchets
Oh man that looks FUN. Lucky you.
Here in Broward country FL it’s all flat, not much except county parks. But they have converted some railways to bike paths. Also have dual suspension off-road bikes, one day.
LOL
Sell them to china!
