vergreen Marine, the owner of the stuck Ever Forward, has declared General Average following two unsuccessful attempts to refloat the ship in Chesapeake Bay.
The latest attempt took place Wednesday hoping to take advantage of a weather system that helped to raise tides about a foot higher than normal. Unfortunately, the refloating attempt was unsuccessful and there did not seem to be any movement of the ship.
In a statement, Evergreen said GA has been declared “in light of the increasing costs arising from the continued attempts to refloat the vessel.”
General Average is a maritime law principle requiring that the shipowner and cargo interests proportionately share in the costs associated with rescuing a vessel after a major casualty. When GA is declared, cargo owners are required to contribute to a GA fund before their cargo can be released.

Her draft exceeded the depth of the water.
“General Average”. Learned something new about maritime law.
Ever Stuck.
Never Forward.
They’re going to have to unload enough containers to lighten up the ship enough to get her off the mud.
Where’s Mike Nelson when you need him?
Weird.
Same company that blocked the Suez with the ship Ever Given.
Intentional?
But what did Colonel Mediocre have to say about that?
Regards,
The title caught my attention because I didn’t quite get what it was saying. I learned something new.
I kid you not, saw a truck years ago with the company name on the side:
“Adequate Fire Protection”
That would suck if you only had 1 container on there :P
If there are 5,000 containers on a ship and you have only one of them, then your share of the damages will be 1/5000th of the total. It’s not a bad deal. :-)
It is a local pilot who was in charge of the ship, not the captain or the company.
They come out from Lynnhaven River in VA Beach on the way in, and are placed on board when they leave the pier and get off at Lynnhaven River on the way out.
Dammit, my new Lambo is on that boat!
They had to strip the Bog Mo to get her off the reef.

Not intentional. Evergreen has 100s of ships all over the world. If it had blocked a major channel, maybe. But just running aground? No.
Thanks for that blast from the past. Haven’t thought about Sea Hunt in a long long time.
