I’d imagine most of the programmers at Google were in elementary school in 2000...........

Custom browser scripting seems like a lot of work. Why not just use industry standardized HTML5, or am I off base here?
It’s been a long time for me. I learned to code and now I forgot everything and what I did know is obsolete. lol
It just seems like some sites try to get too cute. Just another manifestation of the bloatware phenomenon

Yeah, but whoever made the original decision is long gone doing other things.
So...
It’s a win!

"Mozilla's Firefox followed suit, and since then Chrome moved to even faster six-week and now four-week cadence." Brave seems to be far more often even than this. I haven't counted, but seems to be almost weekly.

It’s not Google, it’s the websites, but probably same scenario. But...failing to foresee a change in order of magnitude (power of ten, number of decimal digits) of something is a lot less understandable now than when memory was a petabuck a kilobyte, instead of a kilobuck a petabyte.

I think I’d like to install a non-Chromium based browser. I mostly use Edge, since it more or less automatically installed with my latest windowed computer.
Suggestions??

I use Firefox (Mozilla), which is non-Chromium, for 95% of my work and home usage. Google Chrome, Edge, and even Brave are Chromium-based.
Firefox works great overall. The only drawback these days is that it's a minor player in the browser market, so some websites don't check for compatibility with Firefox when they introduce new GUI features.
Some folks (on FR and elsewhere) get all uppity about Mozilla because they're woke, but I mostly ignore that aspect, frankly. I have to get work done, not be righteous about the tools I use.
So I much prefer non-Chromium Firefox. Open-source, runs on everything, free, etc.

Thanks.
Any experience with Comodo IceDragon? It looks like it might be a good lightweight alternative.
