Back in the 70's if a conservative pointed out that some gays were advocating for gay marriage, they would be accused of being crazy extremists. The official position of the "gay community" was just decriminalizing homosexuality and discouraging work and housing discrimination.

Back then we should have called for the abolishment of government marriage.

Marriage is a religious sacrament. That should be based on the religions practices.

The government has no business in declaring marriages. We have a thousand years of contract law that could cover the legalities of property.
