Elliot Page has revealed that his 'Umbrella Academy' character Vanya Hargreeves will come out as transgender and be known as Viktor Hargreeves in the upcoming third season of the Netflix superhero series.
The 35-year-old actor announced the news on his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Tuesday, sharing a first-look photo of himself on the show with the caption: 'Meet Viktor Hargreeves.'
Page came out as transgender in December 2020, and Variety reported that Viktor will also use he/him/his pronouns in the new season, which will debut on June 22.
The 'Juno' star played Vanya — a cisgender woman with the ability to harness sound and convert it into energy — in the show's first two seasons.
Netflix confirmed that he would continue to star in 'The Umbrella Academy' after he came out, but sources told Variety at the time that there weren't any plans to change his character's gender.
The streaming site celebrated the introduction of Viktor on social media on Tuesday, writing: 'Welcome to the family, Viktor — we’re so happy you’re here.'
The news comes just a few weeks after the release of the long-awaited first trailer for show's third season.
Page's character was still being referred to as Vanya in the teaser, making the actor's post the first allusion to the upcoming transition storyline.
The second season of the show ended with the Hargreeves having stopped the apocalypse after traveling back in time to 1963, only to return in 2019 to find that they have significantly altered their timeline.
In the altered timeline, Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) had not founded The Umbrella Academy, but instead The Sparrow Academy.

She had her breasts removed. Elective surgery, meant to look less feminine. I wonder if such women experience a phenomenon many amputees are said to go through, that of the ‘phantom limb’. Wonder if she still feels her missing breasts?

As someone who watched the first season and grudgingly followed the 2nd - hard pass.
I watch the local news to get the weather and then shut it off.
IMHO, she always had the body of a twelve-year old boy. As for this Netflix series, I have never heard of it.
The first season was ok, second I never bothered to finish. And that was 2 years ago.
So the Hargreeves go back in time and then instead of coming back to the present, they come back 3 years ago. Sounds like “Back To The Future” with a different tranny in the DeLorean.
Every once in a while, on Reddit, I come across a person who I figure out is trans. When I check out their posting history, it’s always a chaotic mess of angst, medication, financial incompetence, and frivolous pursuits. I think these people are, across the board, severely mentally ill.
My days consist of working about 8-10 hours per day M-F, doing things around house before bed, reading before bed, and doing the same thing the next day. I’ve been getting my weather from my SW radio mostly and only to make sure I won’t get stuck on the highway during an ice storm.
