You don’t need the laptop itself. You can use Acronis or Macrium disk imaging software to create an image of the disk.
Once you have an image you can look at it’s contents.
You can even run the image as PC or Mac virtual machine.
I only hope that the good guys made a disk image before the laptop grew legs and walked away.
