From memory, there were six Russo-Ottoman. At the end of these wars, Imperial Russia expelled the Ottomans from the north shore of the Black Sea. It (Imperial Russia) then annexed Crimea in violation of a treaty guaranteeing its independence; and, then started to remove Tartars (Turkic peoples).
In spite of forced removals, Crimea remained majority Tartar until the mid 20th Century. Then, with continuing removals and settlements by Russians, Crimea changed to majority Russian.
All the above is so much history. At some point, we accept borders.

Here’s an actual summary of what happened.
1. The Biden State Department told Putin the Ukraine was going to going to join NATO. They told Putin because they knew Putin would freak out and feel secure in attacking because Biden is an incompetent idiot. This is the same thing they did to Saddam with Kuwait.
2. Their agenda was mainly to change the discussion from the Democrat’s mismanagement of the USA/Covid/the economy, make isolationist Republicans looks terrible, and generally cause a crisis which they could use for whatever resets, they could get.
3. Putin is predictable and took the bait. It was good bait. Ukraine joining NATO would be like Putin putting nukes in Juarez, Mexico.
4. I think everyone agrees the USA DOES NOT need to (AND SHOULD NOT) put lives on the line in a land war in Eastern Europe.
5. All countries can send whatever military aid and equipment they want to Ukraine and not provoke Putin any more than he provoked the USA by sending arms to the Viet Cong.
By mopping up the Russian swiftly (and unexpectedly to the Deep State), whatever crisis they hoped to create will pass.
Short term, this means, the Migs, Javelins, food, meds, drones, and intel.

There are about 900 people in the Azov battalion. Out of a country of 40,000,000. Many of Azov’s members come from countries other than Ukraine.
And they’re all fighting for the Jewish Zelenskyy.
