Russia is losing as the Ukrainian coutnerattacks appear to have no signs of stopping. At the moment, we are currently facing Russian bot attacks, so please bear with us as we may have to shut of the chat for tonight. The Ukrainians have covered large amounts of ground over the past few days, and with escalating tensions between the west and the east it is uncertain where this could go at the moment.

There is a silver lining to this terrible war. By showing the effectiveness of handheld anti-armor and anti-aircraft missiles, it may give the communists in china pause over the forceful reunification with taiwan. As far as casualties in this war remember that in war “truth is the first casualty”. The ukrainians are unlikely to push the russians out by force because , they lost their airforce and navy on the first day of the war and their best, professional troops are trapped and being destroyed in the pocket in the donbass.

I understand that the Russians are taking losses. I am pointing out that they do not have to. They have the weapons to flatten the Ukraine. It would not be hard. But they are trying to infiltrate it. They took the Crimea without much resistance. And I assume they thought they would have less resistance in other parts of the Ukraine. They are trying to win without destroying the place. They are trying to win and allow the pro-Russian population to survive. Their biggest goal is to kick the CIA out of Ukraine. As much as anything, its a war against our government. Its Russia vs. the CIA. The Ukrainians are just in the way.

What has amazed me is the number of trolls like Norse Viking that are on this site. I never realized how big the infestation is. However, Free Republic is open for almost any comment and thus represents true free speech and this is good.

I don’t think there are good solutions to paid trolls problems. The less than good ones would infringe on free speech, but so do the trolls.

From infiltrators to Russian troll farms we know that they give people assignments where for example two persons create and run five fictional characters in the targeted forum each a little different, sometimes even having pretend arguments with each other, but all of course in service of spreading disinformation.

That is a step toward an anti free speech construct “Heckler’s Veto”, because a dedicated outfit with one or two persons at call all the time doing this as their job each running multiple accounts can flood a smaller forum with their sh** and ruin it for genuine people.

“They have the weapons to flatten the Ukraine. It would not be hard.”

It is hard, if you do it legally, just shooting at military targets. Indiscriminate use of force (like carpet bombing cities) is a violation of the Geneva conventions, which Russia is a party to. Deliberate targeting of civilians is also a crime (which they are also committing).

“They are trying to win without destroying the place.”

That initial quick takeover failed, and during the second week, they gradually ramped up attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure (electricity, water, heat, hospitals, schools, fuel, food), starting in Kharkiv. That has now become central to their current strategy of bombarding cities to compel surrender. Mariupol is now the poster boy for that deliberate strategy, but they continue to pursue it several cities - apparently to the very maximum they are able to, given the amount of artillery and ammunition supply they have available. They are pretty much doing their damned best to destroy as much as they can, short of WMD and high altitude bombing with dumb bombs.

“Their biggest goal is to kick the CIA out of Ukraine.”

It seems like seizing control of territory and resources is their main goal, either directly, or through installed surrogates. Putin’s huge personal fortune comes largely from skimming off of the production of oil and gas. When significant offshore hydrocarbon deposits were identified in Ukrainian waters (2012), planning and preparations quickly got underway for his 2014 invasion of the Ukraine, where he seized Crimea, and its territorial waters.

How much do you want to bet that Russia gets everything it wants out of this war?

You're repeating nonsense that will be exposed as lunacy soon.

In the movie, it’s: “Wolverines!”

In reality, it’s: “Slava Ukraini!”

“Mariupol”

Even the anti-Russian propagandists are admitting it has fallen.

“it may give the communists in china pause over the forceful reunification with taiwan.”

I see it differently.

It just helps China identify which tactics to use when they invade Taiwan.

They now know they need to totally decouple their economy from the US dollar and economy.

They will get that done—and then attack.

Sun Tzu—attack when your enemy is weak.

This is the weakest the US has been in the last seventy years.

Russia doesn’t want Kiev or they would have went into Kiev a long time ago.

Russia doesn’t want Kiev or they would have went into Kiev a long time ago.

That is circular reasoning, which assumes Russia is as strong as nearly everyone thought, a bit more than a month ago.

There is considerable evidence, now, that Russia is not as strong as previously believed.

Have the Russian forces been stopped by force? If appears so.

We will not really know what has happened for a while.

I’m having trouble believing anything from the Ukraine or Russia at this point and the western media, that’s a joke in and off itself, they couldn’t report the truth if their lives depended on it.

Wasn’t there an article 4 days ago saying Russia would be out of food and ammo?

So what happened?

So what happened?

It appears a lot of Russian units are low on fuel, ammunition and food.

Is it all of Russian units, all at once? Probably not.

Indication of logistical problems are pretty common.

It appears Russian units closer to the Azov and Black seas are better supplied.
