I had about ten or so break on me until I found this. I won a giftcard to williams sonoma and that is where I originally bought it. I use it for small, medium and those extra large bulk cans. Ten years and still works great.

Good choice, never underestimate the value of a good can opener.

A decent hand-held can opener made by OXO works well for me. I've got two. The oldest I've had for at least 20 years. Amazon sells them, and they also have a website:

Got a great can opener with rubber handles you can squeeze to make opening opening tight jar lids a breeze. A twofer!

We have one that cuts on the side of the can, too. It took me a long time to really get the hang of it, but I now like it a lot. Ours is probably about 8 years old, too.

Using the built-in gripper to get the lid off takes a bit of work, too.

My wife bought the "Pampered Chef" Smooth-Edge Can Opener which I mentioned in an earlier post. It's a great tool, but YIKES is it expensive now! $44! It's very easy to operate.

They also make a little larger version called a P-51. Better for old hands and fingers...

I just hit the jar lid with the handle of a knife in a minimum of 4-6 places and it breaks the vacuum seal.

“Every Swiss army knife has a can opener.”

That was my solution in the US Army where they never shipped the same amount of P-38 openers as the number of C-rations in the case. I always had an opener that way.
