To many, it’s a fun fairytale to lure tourists; to others, it’s a genuine mystery – or just a silly hoax.
But to woke education chiefs, the Loch Ness Monster is a potent symbol of England’s domination of Scotland – a theory which will now be taught in schools.
Pupils north of the border are to be told how the mythical beast reinforces negative stereotypes and ingrains bias about the Scots.
Schoolchildren will be taught how the class structure had a role in the creation of the legend, and how stories surrounding the creature relate to debate on Scottish Independence and even the Cold War.
But campaigners last night criticised the classes as ‘nationalist, anti-British propaganda’ aimed at ‘brainwashing’ pupils.
The remarkable claims about Nessie come in a 17-page social studies lesson plan to help secondary school teachers teach what the monster’s portrayal in films says about Scotland’s image and how it affects ‘wider contemporary topics, such as the Independence Referendum’.
The material aims to help 11-to-14- year-olds ‘recognise persuasion and bias’ and asserts that the monster was ‘designed as a tourist attraction to appeal to the motoring middle classes’ during the Depression.
Though the earliest reports date from the 6th Century, the Nessie phenomenon exploded in the 1930s with a flurry of alleged sightings and photographs.
And the first film about Nessie was 1934’s low-budget horror romp The Secret Of The Loch.
The lesson plan says the movie monster ‘shows the somewhat ambivalent position that Scotland holds in the Union… the very idea of a prehistoric monster in a loch affirms the stereotypical idea that Scotland – by contrast to England – is a rural wilderness, perhaps one bypassed by progress.
‘The monster’s depiction suggests that although there was a “primitive” wilderness in Scotland before the state of Britain,

I am up for something lighter… Brigadoon with Cyd Charisse.
“Do you have witches where you are from?”
“We pronounce it differently.”
These people look for excuses to be offended by something, anything!
Not very many I don't think. I've been there (did not see Nessie). I was stationed in England, and we made a trip up to Scotland, saw the fantastic castle at Edinburgh, proceeded north to Inverness, and swung around the north side the lake. It really didn't look like it had many visitors.
I attended the Military Tattoo at the castle…..awesome.

When everything offends the left, we have a serious problem on our hands.
They should teach those Scottish children about brain drain, and how they are the dregs of Scottish blood and intellect.
There was “something” just under the surface of the water on Lake Champlain that I and others saw. It never broke the surface, but it was going against the waves and leaving a wake. A boat went out to check it, and the wake was gone. Only about 30 feet deep in that area. But there definitely was something. Like to believe that it was Champ.
In the talk, Edgerton admitted he was reluctant to join the search, being an unbeliever. But he was convinced to try, and that he did.
When MIT Helped Search for the Loch Ness Monster
Lake Champlain legend has its own *monster, called Champy. Real or a tourist attraction?
I wonder what Sir Curt Godfrey Of The Nessie Alliance thinks about this.
Come to think of it, they racially profiled me at the airport! I was clearly picked out for a thorough search due to being an early 20s male with an Irish surname. Those racist bastards! I am offended! Many times over!
Brigadoon,
Sounds Perfect but can’t say I’ve seen it. I’ll add it to my DVD’S,,,Thanks!

This is being put about by the SNP, it is their form of CRT. Each Scot is subsidised to the tune of over £2,000 a year by English taxpayers. Scot does not produce enough to make it as an Independent nation. If youthe average Englander if he agrees with the Scots leaving the Union he will tell you, no - we would rather kick them out. Joke: the Irish gave bagpipes to the Scots as a joke, the Scots took it seriously.
I apologize to any Scots I may have offended. Like the Scots who live in England and persist in telling us how great Scotland is, our only comeback is, If Scotland is so bloody great - what the hell are you still doing here?
Scottish kids are primitive enough to believe it. Right, laddies and lassies?
Oh my Gosh... Nessie is a symbol of the British making the Scots second class citizens? No comment, because I don’t want to be zotted on here!!
Nessie might just eat the creators of this silliness
In the UK, it appears the Scots and the Welsh get at least a partial exemption for white guilt due to past oppression by the English. The St. George flag is considered bigoted, while the Scottish and Welsh flags fly freely. It is a goal of the New World Order to encourage dissension and the ultimate weakening of strong nation states.
