Everyone used to rent phones from Ma Bell. It wasn’t the company that screwed us so much as it was that darn tax imposed on phone communications to pay off WW1 or whatever excuse it was the government used to justify it.

"They will just deduct the monthly fee from your digital credit account."

And that's why I still pay my monthly bills by check. I get calls everyday from my Utility Company and even my Exxon/Mobile gasoline company to change over to automatic on-line debit billing. I won't do it. I don't want a third party in digital control of my banking system.

Yes, I know it can be a convenience for the consumer. I just don't trust them so they get hard checks in snail mail. It still works when I look at my banking statements.

You won’t have any choice. All financial accounts are going to be eliminated except the social credit system administered by the government. They will give you a certain number of credits at the beginning of the month and allocate them as they see fit. If you don’t obey, you will get no credits that month.

“Most people don’t own their iPhones today. They take them out on two-year plans typically before they are paid off. Then they take out a two-year plan on the latest model. Thus, like leasing a car, they never actually own their iPhones.”

You just described most of our family members from ages 60 down to the 20’s.

We, also own our 2 vehicles.

They were forced to change their business model because they realize pretty soon few will be able to afford buying their phones outright. Why people still pay for an expensive iPhone when you can get a cheap android phone that does everything you need I’ll never know.

Picked it up somewhere a day or two ago, it applies on a surprising number of threads. And good people like it.

Microsoft has been doing this for years, screwing over businesses and individuals with their products and having to constantly pay for something that you’ll never get to truly own. Now the music industry has followed along with movie and video games.

It was the Spanish/American War we were paying/taxed on until the mid 80s.

Not like you “own” your phone anyway. Everything involved in making it work is licensed rather than sold, plus you need a new one after three years. Sure, I “own” it, and can toss it in the lake and it’s my business, but not owning it must not be much different than leasing a car. Doesn’t seem to be a big deal in this case.

Honestly when it comes to cellphone renting would be kind of nice. How many old phones do people have in various nooks? We’re all afraid to throw them away cause of the stuff on them, but we’re not gonna use them anymore. Plus of course all the services have their “windows” of when you can get new phones for cheaper. Gimme a rental plan, and professionally transfer stuff to the new phone, wipe the old phone and then it become THEIR problem.

People were happier before smart phones. They paid more attention to their life and those around them. Now they will be like having a snoop ass government looking over your shoulder. Just awful.

I’ve had my old iPhone for at least 8 years. I was forced to move to a 4G phone smart phone because my old regular 3G phone was being interfered with by a network booster in the area. The only way I could get rid of the booster icon on my phone, was to go to a 4G smart phone. I bought the cheapest iPhone they had. It’s a piece of shit, and only keep it, just in case I have an emergency when I’m away from home. I only use it for calls and the occasional text message. I don’t use it for anything else. Never even taken a photo on it. I don’t ever plan on buying another one, and sure as hell, would never rent one.

Spanish American War. Tax not lifted until Bush 2. I mean it was like a buck and a quarter, but yeah.

And still they line up around the corner everytime Apple issues a newer iPhone with a seventh camera or whatnot. What lemmings!
