Ours have sparkles, and I’ve always enjoyed them. It’s not as though it’s a solid sheet of glitter; it’s just tiny dots of light scattered overhead like faraway stars which disappear and reappear elsewhere if you move your gaze.
Even plain popcorn at least has some texture. Can’t quite figure out why anyone wants a boring ceiling like a flat, empty sky. The only problem is if a stain occurs or a patch falls off (a tornado took part of our roof and dampness caused that), it’s more difficult, but not impossible to match the new section to the old. It’s a ceiling, after all, and most people don’t look at ceilings for long.
I’ve read this thread. Commented on this thread and still have no idea what a corn pop ceiling is. I’m also shitfaced on sake in some parts unknown. Now to smoke a cigar and ponder the cornholio ceiling. I’ll get some Soju.

These shows are so snobbish! They will rip out a kitchen if it’s like three years old, just because it’s not the exact trend they like at the moment.
Everyone adors Chip and Joanna, but I can’t stand the fact that every one of her rooms is so “white”.
But back to the popcorn ceiling; I think it’s probably used to hide any imperfections in the ceiling. I don’t think they look that bad, but that’s just my opinion.

The ONLY way to really hide it is to cover it with ¼” drywall.
What’s impressive is an actual smooth coat of plaster over drywall, it paints up beautifully. Plasterers are few and far between these days.
The inventor of popcorn ceilings has to have been tarred and popcorned and run outta’ town by now.

Because they are hell to try and repaint unless you’re gonna use a sprayer. Same thing goes for stippling. Both are just means to hide imperfections in the taping, mudding and sanding of the sheet rock.

Momma had the avacado kitchen appliances WITH an avacado themed mosaic vinyl floor. What was cool was the electric fondu pot was a burnt avacado too!
