You're watching the official music video for Starship - "We Built This City" from the 1985 album 'Knee Deep in the Hoopla'.

One of those songs where the male has a higher voice than the female. Of course she was a wee bit older too.
Never liked the song. Wonder what the line would be today of building ‘this city’? Drugs and dems? Or ‘ruined this city’. Or journey’s “Lights” ‘city by the bay......
Grace was really great back in the day.
Of course, the day was some time prior to 1985.
Voted worst rock song of all time.
I saw them in concert in the summer of ‘86. They were playing Roy Wilkins Auditorium in downtown St Paul. The Outfield opened for them.
A interesting crowd - lots of screaming teenage girls there to see the Outfield and a bunch of former 60’s people smoking pot and waiting for Grace Slick to sing “White Rabbit”. Throw in people like me and my friends (early 20-somethings) and it was a fun evening.
Grace Slick was one of the best pure singers of her generation.
Otherwise dumb as a post.
This song sucks.
Sorry.
starship’s worst song is their most famous one
wildly considered the WORST song ever....
It sucks but still nostalgic....like a lot of other sucky songs..
It is, it’s just so ultra moronic. “Hey gang, Kyiv in the Ukraine is totally levelled by Putin! But don’t worry, we can rebuild this city, all we need is rock and roll!” Que in the constuction workers doing synchronized dancing “WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROOOCK AND ROLLLL”
I was riding with a buddy in college and this song came on the radio. After a minute or so he said, “How many f’ing times are they going to say ‘Built This City!’”?
I laughed and we agreed the next time we heard it we would try and count.
I think the answer was 26.
Even Grace Slick said it sucked
he had the outfield song posted i think yesterday.
I saw The Jefferson Starship in 1975. Most of the original JA members were present. I don’t think any of them dreamed this would be the direction the band would take. Ironically most of the band moved from SF to LA years before this song was recorded.
The WORST song they ever made, period!!!
I think Safety Dance and Sussudio complete the top three..
The band even hated this song. It was their โwalk like an Egyptian โ moment
Really...they smoked dope, shot smack, and fouled the air. They didn;t build sh_t!
I went to see them that year too. Outfield was supposed to open, but they didn’t show for some unknown reason. I didn’t like this song very much. I liked Airplane better. Jefferson Starship had a song called Miracles which was a nice easy song I liked.
