Tuesday was a good day to be out on filling up your gas tank in Oceanside.
Officers with Oceanside Police Department were on a mission to help drivers with rising gas prices, handing out $50 bills to help drivers deal with pain at the pump, KTLA sister station KSWB reported.
“I have to pay for this pump and this truck and I get like 8 miles a gallon so I’m paying like $300 a week,” driver Dylan Garcia said.
“It’s hurt a lot, you know. It’s taking away from everything else,” driver Steven Zufall said. “It’s hard to go to eat now. It’s hard to afford everything and just getting around.”
But today was Garcia’s lucky day.
Oceanside officers gave away a total of $1,500 to unsuspecting drivers like Garcia and others just looking to fill up their tank. The law enforcement agency recently received a $20,000 grant from Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc. to make this possible.

Instead of helping victims of trauma, use that money to buy votes.
That's less than filling 20 gas tanks..There are 20 million cars in that part of the state....This must be a joke.
Would be better coming from private companies as enticement to stop by their stores. Government cash giveaways are cheesy, at best.
What is this? Why does the government have the compulsion to protect people from the normal ups and downs of life? Prices go up, prices go down. We have to be able to handle both occurrences. This generosity comes from somewhere - tax money that was coughed up by the very same people who are getting the free money.
Does government want us completely dependent on government and not on our own resources? (Yes).
Does government want us to be weak, frail failures who can’t help ourselves out of a pinch? (Yes).
They voted for this destruction or stood by ignoring politics. Now they are reaping the results.
But they gave away $1,500 out of a 20K Grant. Where did the rest go?
They are able to afford it from the toll booths outside of Camp Pendleton that bilk the Marines, sailors, and family members. It was supposed to pay for one bridge decades ago, but it was never taken down.
“..But they gave away $1,500 out of a 20K Grant. Where did the rest go?...”
10% for the Big Guy and the rest...well...you’d have to ask em....LOL
Ten percent to the big guy, 7 1/2 percent to the little guy, and the rest for “upgrades” in the station house and maybe fix a few tickets here and there.
The tolls have been gone for a while now.
If they really wanted to help, they should have handed out MAGA hats and Trump 2024 signs.
They’re going to have to do some more warrantless asset seizures before they can afford to fill up 20 million cars...
POLICE WORK???? Omg.
Exactly! AND where do they get that money to give? Rich police in Oceanside???
Hmmmm
Ding, ding, ding. Who’s pocket did the other $18,500 go?
Cops were handing out other people’s money while not doing the jobs taxpayers hired them to do. How many drunk drivers crashed into people? How many child pervs struck again?
The guy shouldn’t be driving anything that gets only 8 mpg. Sheesh!
If it's his work truck there may not be an alternative.
Darn, I can’t believe I moved out of Oceanside last month!
Oh.
