I am reminded of what happened to my Brother-in-law’s parents in West Texas in 1943.
Being ranchers they raised their own food, canned it stocked their cellar and had plenty for themselves and their hired hands.
Then someone snitched and called them a “Food Hoarder”.
Government agents came out and confiscated every bit of food they had in their cellar, home canned and all.
How did they survive? They had another cellar hidden out in the hills also stocked.

My former Senator from SC, Jim DeMint a former businessman, wrote a book about his experience.
Recalling from my memory he basically reported that in his first and only term, he was called to GW Bush’s office about a vote he disagreed with. Present was not just GW but VP Cheney.
They told DeMint if he didn’t vote as they instructed, they would not support him financially for the next election and that his job as a junior senator was to raise money for others and do as he was told.
He quit, not because of lack of campaign cash but because his eyes were opened to the deep state swamp and he wanted no part of it.
We can get good people but cannot keep them.

While I get your point, I was writing along the lines of the boy who cried wolf. When the wolf eventually appeared (”liar telling the truth about the situation”) no one believed him and so he was devoured.
In our political situation, it is not the liars who necessarily will be harmed, but if they are, a lot of innocent people will be going down with them. It matters not whether they re lying, or like the boy who cried wolf are telling the truth. Like the boy, the US would not be in this situation (nor Afghanistan) had they told the truth all along.
What should be the consequences for leaders determined to be seeking to enslave their own people?

Perhaps I’m just confused, but is there some reason that Trump or anyone else in the West should be supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine?
We can not abandon our moral compass just because people we greatly dislike are on the side of Ukraine. Our reasons are different from theirs, the facts remain the facts. Putin invaded Ukraine.

You have stated exactly my own thoughts on this matter. These two issues should not be commingled by anyone given the fact that Russia launched an UNPROVOKED military attack on Ukraine and has killed thousands of its non-combatants. NOTHING can justify that heinous act!
Like Robinson Crusoe..... primitive as can be.
Any consequences would have to be adminstered by We The People. Those in government aren’t going to mete out justice.
