I'm a huge fan of music and find something to appreciate in virtually every genre. Rap is one of the few genres I just cannot tolerate. It's so profane, negative, and un-redeeming in every way. It's just an ugly musical form full of hate and anger.
Listening to a Top 40 countdown of the songs from 1983 on the 80s station on Sirius right now and nearly every song is a pleasure to listen to. From rock to soul to jazz to New Wave, the songs were well-crafted.
1983 was just before angry rap began dominating Top 40. Our society has been in decline ever since. Not sure rap is the cause or an effect. Maybe a bit of both.

That was in the military with a guy that grew up down the road from Slim Whitman of course I didn’t believe him until I went to his house outside of Jacksonville off of Highway 10. sure enough he showed me the house and I saw the mailbox and I was a believer.
My buddy said Slim was a really good guy.
