Are Russia and Ukraine Closer to a Ceasefire Deal?
(Excerpt) Read more at youtu.be ...
“Russia has more sympathy and support outside of the usual western countries than you may thing. I’m not even talking about China and India, there’s plenty of others.”
Other than Iran and North Korea, and maybe Syria, name them.
They keep bringing in more Russians to kill. Putin must hate Russian moms.
Putin can’t beat Ukrainian Nazis. I’m not scared.
“Putin isn’t going to give Crimea back to Ukraine...”
It’s ironic, but Crimea was only part of “Russia” for less than 300 years (since 1783). Prior to that, it was part of the Ottoman Empire, The Byzantine Empire, Imperial Greece, and others. And the three mentioned above each had it far longer than Russia did. It was part of Ukraine for 60 years (from 1954, when Ukraine was an SSR, until 2014 when Russia occupied it and annexed it). Perhaps the Turks have a more legitimate claim to Crimea?
“traditionally russia has taken the position: What is Ours is Ours. What is Yours is Negotiable.”
Exactly. Russia has been the neighborhood punk for 300 years.
“Sorry. We want peace. Say no to Biden’s war.”
It’s funny, but I’ve read your posts and I can’t ever recall you placing any blame or responsibility on Putin for this war. Why is that?
Lot’s of blame to go around. Putin for allowing himself to be provoked by NATO, Zelenskyy for playing a presidential puppet, and our own Demented meat puppet. Don’t forget the swarms of Neocon bums cheering him on. Toss in the media, the MIC, human trash like Jack Keane, William Kristol, Soros, etc.
It is very clear from your posting history that you are very pro-Russia, and you have pretty much nothing but contempt for the United States. Is it the country itself you so despise? Or is it just its current government?
Yet, on the other hand you call for the US to develop a dominant defense, including all areas of the Pacific Ocean. But you say nothing about the Atlantic, and even call for the abrogation of NATO. So, are we to abandon the defense of our eastern exposure, which is far more fragile than the western exposure because the Atlantic is nowhere near as vast as the Pacific, and there are vastly more nations to our east that can pose a threat, than there are to the west?
Basically the countries that were once upon a time referred to as “non-aligned” during the last cold war. Brazil just said the other day they haven’t agreed to all these trade sanctions against Russia.
“Lot’s of blame to go around. Putin for allowing himself to be provoked by NATO...”
He sure is one weak and fragile leader if he allowed himself to be provoked by such a paper tiger as NATO. I mean, NATO may have some credibility as a defensive organization (which should not be a threat to Russia unless Russia initiated conflict); but it has no credibility whatsoever as an offensive threat.
He's in good company given the collection of global trash posing as leadership. The absolute worst among us has risen to the top, all at seemingly the same time.
“Brazil just said the other day they haven’t agreed to all these trade sanctions against Russia.”
Ah, now you are backpedaling, and placing qualifiers on your statement. Your statement, in toto, was: “Russia has more sympathy and support outside of the usual western countries than you may thing. I’m not even talking about China and India, there’s plenty of others.”
I challenged your statement, and you trotted out the rather feeble qualifier re: Brazil. But, the fact is, Brazil only said it won’t take sides in the Russo-Ukraine conflict. That’s support? Well, maybe on your planet.
“He’s in good company given the collection of global trash posing as leadership. The absolute worst among us has risen to the top, all at seemingly the same time.”
Well, I can’t disagree with you there!
Few of the African or South American countries will honor sanctions for any length of time, they will do what’s in their best interest, which is buying cheaper energy, fertilizer, and wheat from Russia. Brazil specifically said that about fertilizer of which Russia is a major exporter of. China just told Biden today to F-off, and if he tried imposing retaliatory sanctions against China for trading with Russia, they would strongly respond. You’re as clueless as the idiots in the White House if you think sanctions will bring Russia to heel.
“You’re as clueless as the idiots in the White House if you think sanctions will bring Russia to heel.”
Ah, now you’re assuming facts not in evidence. That, or you are projecting. I have never said that sanctions would bring Russia to heel. In fact, I’ve been of the opinion for many, many years that sanctions are nothing more than a light poke in the ribs, perhaps annoying, but nothing more. Sanctions have NEVER deterred ANY country from starting a war.
“It is very clear from your posting history that you are very pro-Russia, and you have pretty much nothing but contempt for the United States.”
There you go again, inventing things.
You want it to be so, therefore you assert it as so.
I have no emotional investment in the Ukraine war. If the entire population of either or both countries were to disappear tomorrow I would not care.
I spoke to what I believe are US interests. I believe our interests are negligible in eastern Europe, and existential in the Pacific. Especially within the context of wealth and capability in western Europe.
They don’t need our help. They can do for themselves. There is absolutely no reason for us to do ANYTHING for them if they will not do for themselves.
Being “allies” with Europe is of no benefit to the US and presents us with considerable downside risk.
However, I believe the US has essential strategic interests throughout east Asia and would undertake war to protect them.
For me it’s 100% about US interests, absent the moralizing and cultural affinity.
Yes, look for them to reach an agreement in the next week or so.
Well, I’m glad to hear you say you are not hostile to the US.
But, you miss the threat from our east (and, I did not limit that to Eastern Europe, as you assumed). You’re right, our existential threat is from China. But China is rapidly colonizing Africa, and is well on its way to establishing strategic assets there. Hell, even Iran’s threat is from our east (though it is minimal compared to China’s threat). China’s goal is to surround us, isolate us, and then choke us. It can only do that from both the east and the west. My point being, we risk all if we block the front door (west) only to get attacked from the undefended back door (east).
From a strategic standpoint, I don’t care all that much about Europe, as it is capable of “doing for themselves.” I don’t care about Russia, which, aside from its nukes, is weak and dying (it’s population is less than half of ours, and is not reproducing). It is, as the despicable John McCain pithily said, just a gas station masquerading as a country. Russia is, and always has been, an insecure and paranoid country; potentially dangerous because of its nukes, but it is not suicidal, and thus would not risk total obliteration by launching nukes against the west. Historically, Turkey has been labeled “the Sick Man of Europe.” I suggest that the label is misplaced, and rightfully belongs to Russia.
You said, for you, it’s about 100% US interests. On that, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
If I ever was rude or called you a name please accept my apology.
I often experience rage when people assume they know my loyalties are with a foreign power.
I fought the cold war...literally. I was a TACAMO communicator. I was tasked with telling the subs to launch.
Now I am but an honorably discharged vet with a disability.
Hard to argue your logic, sir.
