“It is very clear from your posting history that you are very pro-Russia, and you have pretty much nothing but contempt for the United States.”
There you go again, inventing things.
You want it to be so, therefore you assert it as so.
I have no emotional investment in the Ukraine war. If the entire population of either or both countries were to disappear tomorrow I would not care.
I spoke to what I believe are US interests. I believe our interests are negligible in eastern Europe, and existential in the Pacific. Especially within the context of wealth and capability in western Europe.
They don’t need our help. They can do for themselves. There is absolutely no reason for us to do ANYTHING for them if they will not do for themselves.
Being “allies” with Europe is of no benefit to the US and presents us with considerable downside risk.
However, I believe the US has essential strategic interests throughout east Asia and would undertake war to protect them.
For me it’s 100% about US interests, absent the moralizing and cultural affinity.
Well, I’m glad to hear you say you are not hostile to the US.
But, you miss the threat from our east (and, I did not limit that to Eastern Europe, as you assumed). You’re right, our existential threat is from China. But China is rapidly colonizing Africa, and is well on its way to establishing strategic assets there. Hell, even Iran’s threat is from our east (though it is minimal compared to China’s threat). China’s goal is to surround us, isolate us, and then choke us. It can only do that from both the east and the west. My point being, we risk all if we block the front door (west) only to get attacked from the undefended back door (east).
From a strategic standpoint, I don’t care all that much about Europe, as it is capable of “doing for themselves.” I don’t care about Russia, which, aside from its nukes, is weak and dying (it’s population is less than half of ours, and is not reproducing). It is, as the despicable John McCain pithily said, just a gas station masquerading as a country. Russia is, and always has been, an insecure and paranoid country; potentially dangerous because of its nukes, but it is not suicidal, and thus would not risk total obliteration by launching nukes against the west. Historically, Turkey has been labeled “the Sick Man of Europe.” I suggest that the label is misplaced, and rightfully belongs to Russia.
You said, for you, it’s about 100% US interests. On that, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
