The operator of hundreds of Burger King locations in Russia has “refused” to close them down, stymying the restaurant operator’s attempts to leave the country.
Restaurant Brands International, the Toronto-based entity behind Burger King, Tim Horton’s, and other fast food chains, owns just 15 percent of Russia’s Burger King joint venture. The rest is controlled by a group of investors led by Alexander Kolobov, a Russian businessman who is responsible for day-to-day management of the roughly 800 Burger King locations there.
RBI international president David Shear said in a letter to employees Thursday that the company had contacted Kolobov to demand that all Russian Burger Kings cease operations, and Kolobov refused. It has proved difficult to withdraw from the complicated web of business agreements the company established there 10 years ago, he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has vowed to nationalize businesses that try to pull out of the country. And many corporations are stuck there because of complicated legal agreements that put local control of individual stores in the hands of Russians.

Well, the Russian Burger King has no choice. They were told to close down, so they have to either do that or sell burgers with pickled beets or whatever on them.
In a war situation it seems reasonable to not allow companies acting like enemies of the state to repatriate assets. This situation seems somewhat different than when Venezuela does it and winds up wrecking their economy.
Oh yes they do.
They were told to close down, so they have to either do that or sell burgers with pickled beets or whatever on them.
Or they can continue running it as usual (like they do already), change the name and improve the menu. They've already ignored Burger King's diktats.
Russia is not Venezuela.
Russia is the first country to go to space, send a satellite to space, send a man to space etc and are the biggest exporters of wheat in the world right now.
Because the mob of Twitter bluechecks is demanding it.
That is basically what I said. Russia’s seizure of assets seems reasonable…Venezuela’s was idiotic.
A group of Russians own 85% of the BK operations in Russia, do why is this even a discussion? Just put out a press release about this fact and be done with it.
“Well, that is because Kate Upton is with ME.”
Hmmmm....
Caite Upton likes her men EXTREMELY hairy. Like grizzly bear hairy. Like so hairy the guys turn most women off.
Either of you fit that description?

Don’t say that. We have many here who still think they are the backwards country from the Cold War. They might start jumping off of buildings if they found out otherwise.
15% tries to cancel 85%. Sounds like BK is Twitter.
