Burger King says Russian operator ‘refused’ to close hundreds of restaurants

The operator of hundreds of Burger King locations in Russia has “refused” to close them down, stymying the restaurant operator’s attempts to leave the country.

Restaurant Brands International, the Toronto-based entity behind Burger King, Tim Horton’s, and other fast food chains, owns just 15 percent of Russia’s Burger King joint venture. The rest is controlled by a group of investors led by Alexander Kolobov, a Russian businessman who is responsible for day-to-day management of the roughly 800 Burger King locations there.

RBI international president David Shear said in a letter to employees Thursday that the company had contacted Kolobov to demand that all Russian Burger Kings cease operations, and Kolobov refused. It has proved difficult to withdraw from the complicated web of business agreements the company established there 10 years ago, he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has vowed to nationalize businesses that try to pull out of the country. And many corporations are stuck there because of complicated legal agreements that put local control of individual stores in the hands of Russians.

Looks like I have to boycott another corporation that's a puppet of the TechnoDicktaters.

No MickeyDs and no BK.

I'll check Wendy's to see if they knuckled to the globalists.

Agree, tough Shiite. They are a 15% OWNER. Why not put it to a shareholder vote? Sounds fair to me.

He’s got his own two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onion, on his own sesame seed buns. Somehow he will work in cabbage.

Why would the majority owner of the chain close and lose his investment? All these companies walking away are going to want back in when all this mess is over with and it may not happen.

So if I get this right......

Burger King is supposed to boycott Russia, but Biden is insisting American taxpayers are to pay Putin to build a nuclear reactor in Iran built by Russian contractors?

Just asking?

Apparently, Wendy's pulled out years ago over a management issue.

So I don't have to boycott them.

I eat McDonald's and Burger King several times a year. I don't money in the pockets of corporate cancellers. BuhBye!

Lol - RBI only owns a measly 15% because they didn’t want to shoulder the risk and now they don’t have any say - serves them right 🤪

Bob, I’m actually agreeing with you here. Someone with a 15% stake in a business does not get the privilege of dictating to the majority.
