PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and law enforcement leaders spoke Thursday morning, addressing the spike in gun violence in the city.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristen Snowden, gun violence referrals are up 450%.
Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said for 2022, there have been an average of 21.9 shootings per week in Portland.
If this trend continues, Chief Lovell says there will be a little over 1500 shootings this year, which is a 14% increase compared to last year.
The Focused Intervention Team (FIT) has recovered 19 firearms so far, according to Chief Lovell, and have arrested 32 people for various crimes.
Those crimes range from burglary to DUII. Several people have also been arrested on outstanding warrants.
Chief Lovell thanked everyone who is working hard in the community to end gun violence.

I don’t feel sorry for Portland they voted for this BS, although the state is ALL mail in voting and since then has been one party rule the GOOD people of Oregon need to STAND UP and find a way to change this BS!! CA. just went to ALL mail in voting which means we will be under ONE PARTY rule forever!! WA. state is ALL mail in voting and also under ONE PARTY rule, see a pattern here folks!! It has become a catch 22 we can’t change it because legislators are ALL Dems there is NO WAY OUT!!

That arresting thing, that does nothing. You have to charge, try, incarcerate.
