Six students and their coach were killed, along with two others, when a van carrying members of a New Mexico university’s golf teams and a pickup collided Tuesday night in West Texas, officials said.
Two more students were critically injured in the crash involving members of the University of the Southwest’s men’s and women’s golf teams, according to the school.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Steven Blanco said the collision happened around 8:17 p.m. on a two-lane road about nine miles from the city of Andrews, northwest of Midland-Odessa.
"For unknown reasons, the Dodge pickup drove into the northbound lane and struck the Ford passenger van head on. Both vehicles caught fire and burned," the state agency said Wednesday in a statement.

Another “illegal alien” driver ? We’ll never know.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and surmise that drinking was involved, and that these poor guys are more victims of the rats insane border policy.
WOW! That sucks.
You are discounting how matter of fact driving while viewing something (text, video, etc) on one’s phone has become (and swerving into another lane).
Options: 1) Medical condition 2) Looking at phone 3) Bee or snake in car
Is Vegas offering odds on
Illegeals at fault
yet ?
Hopefully everyone was vaccinated. That sounds cruel but the point is that people die a thousand ways and more. Life is very tenuous.
Might have been passing. Pics of the scene show that passing was permitted in one directio.
50/50.
Tragic. NAIA school probably traveling to or from a spring break invitational.
Thats another possibility. But pickup truck, time of night, location as well as a certain demographic’s demonstrated tendency to drink & drive lead me to the other conclusion. I could be wrong.
Two-lane roads are very dangerous. The other day I had a pick-up pass me in a no-passing zone with no way of seeing what was ahead. I was going 5 miles over the 55 mph speed limit. It sucks when other people take your life into their hands.
RIP.
Speed limits on two lane roads in west Texas are typically 70 or 75 mph.
In my times driving in Texas, I can attest to a comparatively high amount of truly crazy drivers, unlike any other state I’ve been in.
They also appear to have outlawed the use of turn signals, there.

Very true. My first thought was that somebody was sending/receiving a text.
That actually happened to me. Years ago I was stopped at an intersection with the windows rolled down on a warm day and a bee flew in. As the light turned green and I started moving, the bee decided to land on my hand while it was on the steering wheel. I'm swatting at it like a maniac, car is swerving all over the place. I just lost all control for a few seconds. I'm darn lucky I didn't hit anybody.
So many around here are at least 15-20 mph over most speed limits. Especially on the highways.
If I did that I’d get 20 tickets a year.
