Russia has lost another of its generals in the war in Ukraine, Kyiv has said, along with seven members of an elite force under Vladimir Putin's direct command as Ukraine inflicts punishing losses on Moscow's war machine.
Major-General Oleg Mityaev, 47, commander of the army's 150th motorised rifle division, died fighting around the besieged city of Mariupol, Ukraine's interior ministry said late Tuesday as officials released a photo of what they claimed was his corpse on the battlefield.
It marks the fourth Russian general that Ukraine claims to have taken out and the 13th officer overall, as Putin's invading forces suffer heavy losses at the hands of dogged Ukrainian defenders.
Seven elite SWAT fighters from the feared Dzerzhinsky Division of Russia's national guard were also revealed to have died in the fighting.
A mourning picture was released in Russia showing the photographs of six elite 'maroon beret' special forces fighters from the Vityaz Special Purpose Centre of the Dzerzhinsky Division, named after Soviet secret police founder Felix Dzerzhinsky. It was later revealed that a seventh had been slain.

Blunders early on in the campaign including poor planning and logistics that saw vehicles stall due to breakdowns, run out of fuel and get bogged down in mud are thought to be behind the eye-watering officer death toll - as commanders were forced to the front to fix the problems before being picked off by Ukrainians.

They seem to have Russian Refleks reactive armor on the turret sides.
Zelenksy said that anyone who captures an enemy vehicle gets to keep it. Anyone have a large bulldozer to recover a tank?
Nope. If they are lying about the Wuhan flu how can you swallow it all down when it’s ukraine? It can’t be both ways.
Bull shit
You are playing the Covid game on the wrong court
In the region of 40 US Generals died in WW2.
It's not exactly new is it?
This is the B team. Their version of our National Guard. They have hundreds of Generals...
Unless you are actually in a war zone, why would you sleep less because Russian soldiers were not killed?
I agree.
Interesting question.
#1 A great deal of the info is coning through “samizdata” independent sources. This was not the case with Covid, at least as far as bureaucratic and policy decisions went.
#2 A great deal of the information is video from “on the ground”, that is, actual video on the spot. It is therefore easy for third parties to compile and categorize. Its really not hard to become pretty good at vehicle recognition.
#3 A great number of non-US sources are available with independent confirmation, including “non-Soros” ones from, say, Poland.
SWAT fighters from the Dzerzhinsky Division = special forces fighters from the Vityaz Special Purpose Center of the Dzerzhinsky Division, 604th Special Purpose Center
Forces of the 604th Special Purpose Center are focused on rural actions and operations, such as liquidation of terrorist cells and heavy raids. However, large scale counter-terrorism operations usually involve SOBR, Spetsnaz, OMON and FSB units due to the large personnel demands.
The special forces unit “Rus’” was created on 1 August 1994; it may track its roots from the 4th Battalion of the Soviet OMSBON, the Independent Motorized Infantry Battalion of Special Purpose, later renamed ODON. The dedicated role of the Rus unit was counter-terrorism and direct action in times of crisis, but actively participated in military and paramilitary operations in Chechnya and the broader North Caucasus region along with other MVD units, such as Vityaz. - wiki
These troops must be the “highly trained” ones, stated as entering the country some days back. They are the best of the best, supposedly.
Its not the 1940's. Communications have changed a lot since those days. If Russians are losing Generals ITS NEWSWORTHY whether you like it or not.
But the Putin cheering section told us that Putin only sent his B Team and all the dead Russians were just a bunch of scrubs.
Not really.
Two of the dead generals were the chief of staff and the deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army (an Army Corps level formation; in Russia Army=US Corps). This is a regular, active army formation normally based in Siberia (Novosibirsk). Russia has transported large forces from its distant borders for this operation. This is the principal unit involved in the attack from Byelorussia down the west bank of the Dneiper. This is certainly not the “B” team.
Putin Puffers will be along shortly.
But bombs, machine guns, artillery etc are even more deadly than ever.
If you are in a war zone fighting a deadly war, you can expect to die. General or not.
The Putin Puffers are already here.
Seriously wrong? If it was the USA being invaded, and “this man” was president, he would not run, unlike Biden who, being a Democrat, would surrender as he ran away.
So staying and fighting for one’s country makes a man “seriously wrong”, but running away is just fine?
The Russians have committed only 200,000 men to this operation, not millions. And its been three weeks not four years. The rate of dead generals is pretty darn high for such small forces.
No. US has lost ONE general in 40 years. With modern communications, there is no reason for a general to be that close to the actual combat.
