East Hartford’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday evening to revoke a permit for a planned Tesla service center at 300 Connecticut Boulevard.
... The PZC signed off on the plans last April, but that decision came under fire in the form of a lawsuit filed by East Hartford-based Hoffman Auto Group, which argues that Tesla, which sells cars directly to consumers without going through dealerships, is trying to get around state law, which bans such sales.
...The Hoffman family of 10 auto dealerships along with more than 250 other dealers statewide remain committed to defending this state’s pro-consumer franchise system which fosters healthy competition on a level playing field and will continue to resist global manufacturers from illegally entering our state in a way that would deprive local consumers of many of the protections they currently enjoy.”

UAW/IAM/AFLCIO in action?
Kudos to Tesla
He is a legend in the foriegn auto world.
Ahhhh...the 356.
“Wow...Tesla cut out the middleman...What a concept”
No. 4 hours in a dealership fighting the battle of “ let me check with my manager” mating of the swan- attrition battle.
Is Tesla doing the ridiculous X% over sticker stuff?
What is the KBB of a $250/mo or 5K dealer mark up over sticker? What is that worth in trade towards a new car?
Classics. Nowadays cars have so much expensive stuff that it can cost $500 to change a headlight.
The town fathers of EH are ignorant.
What are they thinking? Their revenues in EH are so good? PFFFT!
Wait until Pratt & Whitney move out completely; they will wish they had a dinky Tesla center.
Local corruption vs federal corruption.
Grab the popcorn.
The town fathers of EH have a little more spending money today—they were for sale to the highest bidder.
CT has been a corrupt joke for many decades.
Ignore what they say—watch what they do.

**CT has been a corrupt joke for many decades.**
Which is why we moved out! Greatest decision.....try it, you’ll like it. :)
Don’t tell me let me guess......you moved to Florida
—”Nowadays cars have so much expensive stuff that it can cost $500 to change a headlight.”
That would be a steal for many cars and impossible for xenon headlights.
We live way out in the sticks—a large and very private property we could not duplicate elsewhere—and low tax rates (by CT standards)—and they eliminated the state tax on social security—so moving is not a sound choice in our particular situation.
Hadn’t seen that. As cars get more “advanced” it becomes harder and harder to rationalize the upfront costs and the repair costs after 5-10 years making leasing the only option. Cars are lousy “investments” if they are daily use.
Correct.
That’s another reason for soaring insurance costs.
A fender bender takes out multi-thousand dollar headlight systems.
If it’s really only a service center there should not be a problem
A cousin that did exceptionally well in life’s lottery, a gear head that likes nice cars had an idiot light flash in his $$$ Audi. The new car warranty covered the ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR ALTERNATOR REPLACMENT!
He says there is not much on the car, that can be repaired for less than a grand.
He now drives the high-end Caddy...
1. EV's were never covered by dealerships, so Ford could sell directly.
2. ICE production will have 30% excess employees and some very old plants. This could be spun off into another company. The old line MFG's need to reduce costs.
Elon has broken the business model and it will be a tough ride for dealers.
