The U.S. Coast Guard is warning about the hazards of transporting discarded lithium batteries after a container illegally loaded them caught fire while en route to the Port of Virginia, where it was set to be loaded onto a ship.

That was close to being the 2nd ship fire due to batteries.
;>)
Is it a green fire?
That’s the liberals EVs that’s so safe for the environment.
Fire crews are having to receive special training for “Tesla Roasts”, and in most cases it is stand back and let it burn because its too toxic to pour water on and too expensive to extinguish with special chemicals. In other words they are environmental disasters.
One of my neighbors here in the condo complex, who has a Tesla EV, was warned by the dealer who sold it to him, NOT to park it in the garage while charging. He now parks it outside, 50ft from the unit, all the time, or in one of the guests’ parking spaces, far from his and other units.
Ping.
You can be sure with disasters like the Surfside condo collapse. Insurance outfits are bound to prohibit any electric vehicles in under building garages. Attached garages will be prohibited next.
I cannot see that a fire in a vehicle isn’t preceded by temperatures on or internal to battery banks that can warn users. Room to improve sensing a ‘bad’ condition before it becomes critical.
I guess we’ll have to start burying those things under Yucca mountain.
There will probably be a disposal tax added on like they do for tires.
All part of the racket.
This should set the U.N.’s little Swedish meatball off.
“or in one of the guests’ parking spaces”
Well that certainly is neighborly.
Lol!
1) Start lithium batter recycling company
2) buy cheap old freighter
3) evac crew from sinking on fire ship, watch it sink in international waters
4) profit?
“was intended for a maritime voyage to a port in China via a foreign-flagged containership.’
Does china refurbish them? Extract the lithium to put in the stuff we buy?
PLUS special training on how to safely chop through rooftop solar systems to let smoke out of the structure. Firefighters don’t want to get electrocuted when ventilating the structure.
Wasn’t there just a ship full of cars sink in the Atlantic transporting imported new EV cars and safe gas-powered cars?
“It seems shipping industry may have avoided another disaster since the container was intended for a maritime voyage to a port in China via a foreign-flagged containership.”
I can see why the Chinese are pissed at us.
I’m glad we are in this age of doing away with environmental damage by using electric cars.
