A Japanese company is selling metallic shelters that can be installed in apartments and small houses, for protection against natural disasters and even radiation and missile strikes.

WNIshelter specializes in compact shelters designed to resist anything from natural disasters like earthquakes and floods, to missile strikes and radiation. They come with their own air filtration system and come in a variety of sizes, to accommodate anywhere from one to seven people.

Japanese shelter manufacturer WNIshelter, which promotes its indoor metallic shelters by referencing the Ukraine war and the so-called “zigzag” missiles developed by North Korea.

If there is really a nuclear attack, here is what you must do.

Squat down, wrap your arms around your knee and place you head between you legs as far back as you can.

Then kiss you know what, "Goodbye".

If you are right at ground zero, you are right that it won’t do any good.

A home in the suburbs which is a 50 miles from any likely target would benefit if there’s an attack.

Ideal would be if it could double as a safe room for home invasion or tornado.

Hiroshima was mostly rebuilt and re-inhabited by 1947

The radiation from an airboat mostly dies down within a few weeks.

“Hiroshima was mostly rebuilt and re-inhabited by 1947”

There’s no comparison between Hiroshima and a full-scale nuclear exchange between Russia and the U.S.

I live out in the boonies and am certain to survive the blast and radiation. It’s possible, unlikely, but possible that due to preparations I’ve made, my family would not starve in the first six months following the exchange. More Americans would starve to death due to the total loss of modern technology resulting from the nation wide EMP effect than would die from direct bomb blast or radiation. A home in the suburbs would put you in the dog eat dog, anything goes world of having 10% of the food necessary to feed the quickly devolving former suburban feral humans.

If you are near a nuclear explosion but far enough away to not be killed by the initial shock wave, what you do in the next moments and hours can affect whether you live or die (possibly in excruciating pain).

You may get a warning such as a civil defense siren, an emergency broadcast alert, or a wireless emergency alert on your cell phone. This could possibly give you enough heads up to move to a safer location. An ICBM from Russia (not a missile launched from a submarine off our coastline) would probably take about 30 minutes.

You will see a blinding flash of light that will cause temporary blindness for a short while (from seconds to minutes).

From this point you have moments to act. A devastating shock wave is heading your way at about the speed of sound. If you are indoors, get to the central, most stable part of the structure as quickly as can be safely done. If you are in your car, immediately get off the road, park, and duck down. If you are outdoors and cannot instantly get inside, lay face down on the ground and use your hands to protect the back of your head. If it is possible, lay down with a solid structure like a tree or building between you and the source of the explosion (if you can tell).

If you survive the shock wave, you have 10-20 minutes probably (depending on the size, distance, and altitude of the explosion) to get inside, seal off windows, doors, and vents, and remain for 24 hours. When the dirt and other debris falls in a few minutes, it will be radioactive. This is “fall-out”.

If you, your children, or pets get exposed to fallout, thoroughly wash. Wrap up and get rid of any clothing that is contaminated.

Find out what actions to take next by using a battery operated radio, as cell service and the Internet will probably be down for some time. Likewise for electricity.

Prepare to evacuate the area soon.

Umm…

To whom do you go to get your money back if this thing doesn’t work quite like it says it should?

This is an excerpt from an article about Russia’s hypersonic missiles.

“Hypersonic weapons such as Russia’s 3M22 Zircon fly so fast and low — at speeds of up to Mach 6 and at a low atmospheric-ballistic trajectory — that they can penetrate traditional anti-missile defense systems.

The missile flies with an advanced fuel that the Russians say gives it a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. And it’s so fast that the air pressure in front of the weapon forms a plasma cloud as it moves, absorbing radio waves and making it practically invisible to active radar systems.”

We would be lucky of the President got 15 minutes warning. The public won’t get any warning.

How stupid.

If it's an air burst, there'll be very little fallout and residual radiation. Naturally there'll be more radiation the closer your home is to Ground Zero, but the closer you get to Ground Zero, the more likely the initial blast will blow away your home or set it on fire, and your nifty little indoor bunker along with it.

If it's a dirty burst, your chief worry will be Cesium-137, which has a half life of 30 years.

Do you really intend to spend 30 years in that box?

Hypersonic weapons are not stealthy. They are bloody fast, but as stealthy as a Russian tank division. Their “trick” is to get inside your OODA loop to give you not enough time to effectively counter them.

For every measure there is a countermeasure.
