A Florida special needs teacher who suffered serious injuries when she was attacked by a five-year-old, had been hospitalized by the same child several time before, her teacher's union claimed,
Last week Trishia Meadows, 43, a teacher at Pines Lakes Elementary in Pembroke Pines, needed to be stretchered out of her classroom after allegedly being attacked by the five-year-old special needs student.
According to a police report, the incident began when the troublesome child and a four-year-old student were throwing objects and flipping chairs in a pre-K classroom.
Meadows, whos is mom to a young daughter, took the rowdy five-year-old into a 'cool down' room, where she was attacked.
Ana Fusco, President of Broward Teachers Union, told WSVN.com that the child used all his strength to take Meadows down, injuring her so severely she will likely need surgery.
Meadows contacted authorities and when they found her she was breathing but unresponsive.
The teacher of 13 years was taken to a local hospital on a stretcher where she remains hospitalized.
Fusco says that Meadows' injuries from the attack were so severe that she had to be intubated.
Now Fusco is demanding answers from the school after claiming that Meadows has been attacked on three separate occasions by the same student.

Teachers have not been allowed to touch a student for the past 30 years, if not longer. I knew a teacher who explained back then: Whatever a child does, she was not allowed to touch a child ever. If a child hugged her, she was not allowed to hug back. If children were fighting, she was not allowed to touch them to break up the fight. Part of the reason was that parents might file lawsuits and teachers could be wrongly blamed.
is the kid Samoan? I’ve never seen a 5 year old that tall ( a little under 5’)

I once was a big proponent of public schools, as they are the ultimate melting pot. But public schools have lost their way. Back when I first started teaching (1980s) the administrators were, by and large, sensible folks. Some were even WW II vets.
Now most administrators are some combination of woke and weak. And to make matters worse, they are self-important and inflexible. I had one principal - a former English teacher - give me a lecture on how I must teach physics. I doubt if she even took a single physics class. Yet she knew exactly how to teach the subject.
I of course ignored her “instructions”, and was able to retire before she caught on to me.
Anyway, will public schools be able to find their way again? Unfortunately, I think not.

Not to call your child-rearing skills into question, but no. No you could not. I guarantee you could not.
Because there is a requirement for all students to be educated and no state-run asylums, some kids who probably should grow up in a facility are being barely raised in the wild. Parents may or may not have their own respective acts together, may or may not be contributing to the bad behavior of the kids, and the kids have nothing to do but find where the line is and see how far they can push it.
Meanwhile, you have to adhere to a huge list of rules, regulations, and policies. You can't hit the kid, you can only restrain them if they pose an immediate threat to you or someone else, you can't withhold food or stimulation in a lot of cases, and you probably can't even raise your voice if you get angry or want to drive home a point to the little devil. You cross the line and they can get you disciplined or fired, endangering your livelihood... and the worst kids all see getting you fired as the only worthwhile challenge at school.
If you somehow succeed in kicking the student out of your class, they still have to go somewhere. So the district may have to pay tuition for a private specialty school, and they don't want to pay that tuition. The parent (more frequently guardian. Much less frequently parents) may or may not appreciate your efforts, and if they don't like you, they can make things even harder for you and the school district won't have your back because they'll claim the parent is "advocating for their child".
So, no matter how good your intentions are, you eventually give up, warehouse the kid as best you can, and hope the kid moves to another district so they become someone else's problem.
In my area, Scranton, there used to be 7 state hospital buildings housing the mentally ill. Now, these people are in hospitals, nursing homes and the streets wreaking havoc.
This corruption of civil society is not an accident inflicted upon us by honest human beings. This is evil.

Exactly. I remember when they first began “mainstreaming” kids. Back then it was simply the physically disabled, then gradually it became the behaviorally challenged, now it’s also the mentally ill. Yeah, little kids can have mental illness and/or be psychotic. My cousin adopted a kid at birth who turned out to be kind of a physco. He ended up having to be on quite a cocktail of meds. I mean that kid was demonic. When he hit about 7 or 8 they finally found an outlet for him - racing quads - and over time that seemed to make quite a difference.

Not all of "these kids" are the same. Educate yourself on inclusion.
The kid is probably a drug baby with brain issues. The article says the kid threw a bookcase at the teacher! This is a kid who belongs somewhere other than a school.

Some special needs kids are pretty big for their age for some reason, and often special needs people are surprisingly strong and often prone to violent outbursts.
If she was caught off guard by a sudden attack, and was knocked unconscious, I could see the kid doing some damage by continuing to attack her.

So when I hear of a "violent 5 year old", I wouldn't be surprised if he were 10 based on what I've seen.
They range from those who are a bit slow learning to the fully psychotic, violent kid in this article.
What’s your point? What’s the reason for your useless snark “educate yourself”?
I’ve been close to “special needs” people all my life. My sister is severely disabled and in a group home. My wife worked most of her career in our local school district office and handled families with these problems. My other sister has been a lifelong teacher and dealt with these problem kids first-hand and knows the changes that have been made to move them into the classroom.

I guess I should have clarified. Give me one week without all the silly rules that are currently in place. i.e. no corporal punishment.
Go educate yourself on how to write a useful post that contributes to the conversation.
